Build what moves the world

At Amsted Rail Petersburg, we forge components that keep freight moving safely. In this role, you’ll be the force behind stable, efficient, and teachable forging processes—blending hands-on troubleshooting with clear documentation and training so the team delivers to spec, every time.

Role mission

Drive process stability and continuous improvement across the forging value stream—from tooling implementation and mechanical systems to material deformation, handling, and production metrics. Partner with internal customers to uncover root causes of product/procedure defects, then translate solutions into practical work instructions and training that elevate performance.

How you’ll contribute

  • Model safety and environmental stewardship in alignment with Amsted Rail’s Health & Safety program.
  • Turn drawings, dimensions, and specifications into precise tool choices and setups.
  • Configure and program robots and loading/unloading devices for reliable operation.
  • Lead rapid diagnostics to resolve equipment failures and process/product deviations.
  • Inspect, test, and correct machine parts and finished goods.
  • Audit tooling condition and availability; generate requisitions to keep lines supplied.
  • Train and be trained—working shoulder-to-shoulder with operators, maintenance, and engineering to troubleshoot and refine processes.
  • Write and maintain process plans and step-by-step work instructions; develop and catalog training materials.
  • Provide operator trainings covering procedures, hands-on practice, and troubleshooting.
  • Collect and analyze production data in company systems to identify trends, issues, and results.
  • Support changeovers, including attachments for different lines/cells and tooling removal.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to protect equipment uptime.
  • Operate machinery when needed to validate setup and support production.

Capabilities you’ll need

  • Mechanical aptitude with prior experience in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 10–50 lbs regularly; comfortable standing and moving throughout the shift.
  • Consistent use of employer-provided PPE as required by the department.
  • Confidence with Microsoft Office; facility navigating OneDrive/SharePoint and version control.
  • Agility in learning company-specific software, databases, and systems.
  • Accurate, efficient communication and strong keyboarding skills.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening

Work schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with flexibility available and required.

Compensation & benefits

  • Employee Ownership: Annual stock awards (10% of compensation)
  • 401(k) Match: Up to 4% dollar-for-dollar
  • Health Coverage: Medical, dental, vision, HSA with company contributions, life and disability, plus pet insurance after 30 days
