Overview:
Process and metallurgical support for heavy section mill products.
Responsibilities:
- Support daily metallurgical and process control activities within assigned production areas
- Investigate and resolve quality and process issues using root cause analysis and statistical methods
- Monitor and improve product characteristics including gauge control, surface quality, flatness, and mechanical properties
- Assist in developing and optimizing processes, procedures, and equipment performance
- Conduct trials, experiments, and data analysis to support product development, process improvements and cost reduction initiatives
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, procedures, and product/process controls
- Collaborate with operators, maintenance, and support staff to implement sustainable solutions
- Participate in continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations
- Provide on-floor coaching and technical guidance to operations teamsSupport operations during off-shift hours or weekends as required in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
- 3+ years of related experience or relevant internship/co-op experience
- Exposure to heavy industrial or metals manufacturing environments
- Experience in aluminum flat-rolled products manufacturing
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
Advanced data analysis, SPC, or process modeling capabilities
