METCAD is a consolidated dispatch center which was established in June of 1979 with 9 Telecommunicators and an Administrative staff of two. Today, METCAD answers emergency 9-1-1 calls for all of Champaign County. With over 30 employees, METCAD provides direct dispatch service for all law enforcement and fire agencies through-out Champaign County.

Our Telecommunicators serve as essential personnel, providing emergency and non-emergency telephone and text assistance for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by quickly and accurately collecting and documenting critical information from callers in high-stress situations into the dispatch system.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as essential personnel by providing emergency and non-emergency telephone and text support for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  • Receive and manage emergency and non-emergency calls while maintaining professionalism and composure in high-stress or emotionally intense situations.
  • Gather, verify, and document critical caller information in the dispatch system to ensure complete and accurate call records.
  • Deliver emergency medical dispatch triage and provide lifesaving instructions to callers when necessary.
  • Independently assess situations and determine the appropriate level of emergency response.
  • Comply with all department policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • U. S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States (must meet I-9 requirements).
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to solve problems and provide excellent customer service in stressful situations.
  • Ability to acquire mandated certifications (i.e. Law Enforcement Agency Data Systems, Emergency Medical Dispatch, National Incident Management Systems) during the training phase.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with dispatching, customer service, and computer use.
