Mid-Level SQL Developer, but the work is heavily focused on
ETL, data ingestion, and backend data pipeline processing rather than traditional application development. The team supports large-scale financial market data environments involving futures, commodities, and predictive trading data. They ingest high volumes of data received from external trading exchanges and reporting entities, transform and validate that data, and load it into SQL Server environments for downstream reporting and analytics.
What the manager is really looking for:- Strong SQL fundamentals including:
- Joins
- Stored Procedures
- Keys/relationships
- Data validation and quality checks
- Data transformations
- Experience working with backend data pipelines and data ingestion processes
- Ability to parse, map, and load data from structured files such as XML and CSV
- Some Python exposure is helpful, as portions of the loader and database transition processes are written in Python
- ETL or Data Engineering experience is a plus, but strong SQL development skills remain the priority
What is less important:- Traditional front-end or application development
- Deep financial domain expertise
- Specialized XML technologies such as FIXML or FPML (general XML parsing experience is sufficient)

The position involves working with high-volume, mission-critical data ingest pipelines that are essential to the client's regulatory and analytical functions. This is a potential contract-to-hire opportunity, with a hybrid work model requiring up to three specific days onsite per week.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a member of an Agile team to provide engineering support and maintenance for services and processes that migrate data and algorithms to a cloud environment.
- Design, code, test, and implement cloud-based solutions in SQL.
- Collaborate with the customer and internal team on requirements gathering and task estimation.
- Perform routine data checks, code development, and quality checks.
- Support database planning, design, and implementation.
- Support systems analysis, design, and implementation.
- Participate in code reviews and cloud deployments.
- Provide regular status updates on progress within the Agile framework and through weekly reporting.
Required Qualifications- A Bachelor's degree in computer science and 3 years of experience, or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years of experience.
- Familiarity with tools such as AWS Cloud databases using SQL Server.
- Experience with Python and XML.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications- A Master's degree in business, finance, computer science, statistics, or a related field and 2 years of experience.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
- Experience in ETL processes using AWS resources.
- Knowledge of industry XML data exchange message formats.
- Experience with XML, FIXML, or FPML.
