Summary 
We are seeking an experienced and motivated construction litigator to join our nationally recognized California education and public agency facilities and construction practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented attorney who enjoys handling complex construction disputes while working collaboratively with school districts and other public agencies on some of California's most significant public infrastructure projects.
 
Our construction practice advises and represents public entities throughout every phase of the construction process—from procurement and contracting through project delivery and dispute resolution. The successful candidate will play a key role in representing clients in high-stakes litigation while partnering closely with attorneys who advise on front-end construction, procurement, labor compliance, and public contracting matters. 
 
 Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of complex construction litigation in state courts, arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings.
  • Represent California public agencies in disputes involving:
    • Public works construction
    • Delay, disruption, and impact claims
    • Defective design and construction
    • Contract interpretation and enforcement
    • Change order and extra work disputes
    • Bid protests
    • Payment and performance bond claims
    • Professional liability involving architects and engineers
  • Develop litigation strategy, oversee discovery, draft and argue dispositive motions, conduct depositions, manage experts, and prepare cases for trial or arbitration.
  • Advise clients regarding claim avoidance, contract administration, and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Collaborate with transactional and public contracting attorneys to proactively address construction issues before they become disputes.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and work directly with clients, consultants, and construction professionals.

Requirements 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Experience: three (3) – ten (10) years of practice experience.  
  • Construction litigation experience.  
  • Civil litigation and advocacy experience.
  • Arbitration, mediation, and informal dispute resolution.
  • Facilities, construction and property legal matters. 
  • Experience advising public agencies recommended but not required (familiarly with The Brown Act, California Public Records Act., etc.).
  • Candidates must be a member of the State Bar of California. 
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school required.  
  • 1st or 2nd chair trial/arbitration experience.
  • Prior experience in law firm environment strongly preferred.  
  • Strong business judgment and risk assessment capabilities.  
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues coherently to district administrators.
  • Strong project management and organizational planning skills.  
  • Ability to balance legal protection with practical business solutions.  
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality. 
Compensation, Benefits & Perks 
  • Annual Salary Range: $160,000-210,000 annually
