Middle School Guidance Counselor JobID: 33731 Position Type: Student Support Services/Guidance CounselorDate Posted: 10/21/2026Location: Strong Middle SchoolDistrict: Melvindale Northern Allen Park Public Schools Additional Information: Show/HidePosition: Guidance Counselor Location: Strong Middle School Roles and Responsibilities:Provide support services for students in the areas of academic programs, team teaching, registration, course planning, school rules, etc.Assess and counsel students based on observations, conversations, and test results. Guide students to choose courses consistent with his/her interests, abilities and career goals.Help students develop post-secondary education plans in accordance with their interests and abilities.Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.Provide assistance with conflict resolution and crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur at school or home, and refer students and families to appropriate service providers when necessary. Participate in the Student Success Teams (SST) to identify students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinate with other professionals to ensure services are provided.Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student academic and education matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.Provide feedback and recommend appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.Coordinate all state testing programs.Create class schedules.Complete assessments and tests, analyze results and provide feedback.Assist with preparation of report cards and progress reports. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.Organize Honor's Night Ceremony. Qualifications and Education Requirements:Master's degree in counseling or related field.Valid Michigan teacher's certificate with Guidance Counselor (NT) endorsement OR a School Guidance Counselor License issued by the Michigan Department of Education. Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)Salary according to master contract
