Middle School Math TeacherGeorge Walton Academy (GWA) provides challenging instruction, engaging experiences, and global perspectives designed to inspire lives of intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose. GWA is an independent, Pre-K-12, independent, college-preparatory school located on 61 beautiful acres in Monroe, Georgia, less than one hour from the state capitol of Atlanta.George Walton Academy seeks an engaging, energetic Middle School Math teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Reporting to the Upper School Division Head, the teacher will work closely with the Math department and Upper School faculty, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students.ResponsibilitiesTeach six classes and possess the ability and skills to successfully teach math to 6th-8th grade studentsPlan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiencesCreate and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the schoolStay current on latest research in math education and employ evidence-based practices to facilitate deep conceptual understanding as well as procedural fluencyObserve/evaluate/assess students' development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growthContribute to the cohesion, continuity and rigor of the math departmentServe as an advisor to a small group of studentsEnrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroomCommunicate openly, timely and supportively with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progressComplete additional duties as assigned Exceptional Candidates WillDemonstrate an approachable, consistent, transparent, supportive and good-humored postureCommunicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and individuals inside and outside the schoolDemonstrate a passion for sharing best practice pedagogy in the field, especially inquiry based curriculaBe patient and positive and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learningPossess a philosophy of education that aligns with the school's mission and visionPossess international experience, either through teaching, working, or studying QualificationsBachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred3+ years of middle school teaching experience, preferably within independent schoolsExperience with a broad range of instructional practices
