    Duties

    Position Purpose

    The Special Education Teacher in the mindfulness based classroom is passionate about supporting the students who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to emotional and/or physical challenges so that they can succeed in the school''s rigorous academic program. The Special Education Teacher holds primary responsibility for providing academic, emotional, and physical services for students who require additional support to thrive within the school''s core academic program. IVC District #321 will be hiring one teacher to fulfill the mindfulness based classroom position in grades K-4 at Mossville Elementary School.

    Essential Functions

    • The Special Education Teacher will demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds, characters & lives of students both in and out of school
    • The Special Education Teacher will create a positive, structured learning environment to ensure that students observe the school''s core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct
    • The Special Education Teacher will implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards
    • The Special Education Teacher will design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
    • The Special Education Teacher will use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
    • The Special Education Teacher will participate in the collaborative curriculum development process
    • The Special Education Teacher will provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior to ensure that students observe the school''s core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct
    • The Special Education Teacher will exhibit resilience to persevere and turn challenges into opportunities
    • The Special Education Teacher will focus constantly on student learning, thinking critically and strategically to respond to student learning needs
    • The Special Education Teacher will communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
    • The Special Education Teacher will engage families in their children''s education
    • The Special Education Teacher will commit to continual professional growth, participating actively in department meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings
    • Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
    • Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students'' IEP''s and behavior management plans.
    • Serves as ready resource to students and parents to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as liaison between home and school.
    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.

    Additional Duties

    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Equipment

    • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

    Travel Requirements

    • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

    Qualifications

    Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

    • Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, etc. as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs.
    • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

    • Works in standard office and school building environments.

    Qualifications Profile

    Certification/License:

    • State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
    • Motor Vehicle Operator''s License or ability to provide own transportation.

    Education:

    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    • Special Education Licensure preferred, or must be willing to complete proper Special Education licensure within one year.

    Experience:

    • Looking for individuals who have a drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom, as well as those who show evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player.

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Salary/Benefits

    Salary and benefits will be determined based on candidate''s education and experience and the terms of the Illinois Valley Central Education Association contract.
