MIU University Bus Driver

This is a Part -time position

Job Summary:

The Bus Driver safely transports students, student-athletes, employees, and other authorized passengers in MIU buses and passenger vehicles. Assignments may include athletic and university events, airport transportation, special trips, and local or out-of-state travel. The position requires courteous, dependable service and compliance with applicable laws, MIU policies, and Transportation Department procedures

Job Responsibilities:

• Safely operate MIU's 25-passenger bus and other authorized vehicles while following assigned routes, schedules, and itineraries.
• Transport passengers for athletics, university activities, airport service, special events, and approved local, long-distance, or overnight trips.
• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report defects, damage, maintenance needs, accidents, delays, and safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain passenger safety and order; keep aisles and exits clear and secure luggage, equipment, and other cargo.
• Follow emergency procedures and applicable federal, state, and local transportation and traffic requirements.
• Keep vehicles clean, properly fueled, and ready for service; complete inspection, trip, mileage, and passenger records accurately.
• Communicate professionally with passengers, coaches, university departments, and the Transportation Manager.
• Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Safe driving experience and experience operating passenger, bus, commercial, or similar vehicles.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger (P) endorsement appropriate for assigned vehicles.
• School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements when operating a vehicle legally classified as a school bus.
• Safe, acceptable driving record and ability to complete required MIU training and driver authorization procedures.
• Ability to follow maps, GPS directions, schedules, and written instructions; maintain accurate records; and respond calmly in emergencies.

Preferred Experience

Passenger bus, school bus, motorcoach, shuttle, commercial driving, athletic-team transportation, long-distance or overnight driving, vehicle inspections, or transportation recordkeeping.

Schedule and Travel

This is a part-time, as-needed position. Assignments may occur on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays and may include extended-distance, out-of-state, and overnight travel.

Physical and Work requirements

The employee must be able to sit and drive for extended periods; repeatedly enter and exit vehicles; perform inspections; safely operate vehicle controls; handle and secure luggage or equipment within applicable safety limits; maintain the visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive abilities needed to drive safely; and respond appropriately in emergencies. Work occurs in vehicles, parking and loading areas, airports, roadways, and event locations in varying weather and traffic conditions.

Employment and Driver Authorization

Employment and authorization to operate MIU vehicles are contingent upon applicable background and motor vehicle record checks, verification of required licenses and endorsements, medical qualification and drug/alcohol testing when required, successful completion of MIU training and evaluation, and approval by the Transportation Department. Possession of a CDL alone does not authorize operation of an MIU bus.
