Job Description

We are seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineer to help shape the architecture and execution of a large-scale, complex engineering program. This role offers the opportunity to apply Model-Based Systems Engineering principles across the full system lifecycle—from requirements analysis and architecture development through integration, verification, and validation.

The ideal candidate combines strong systems engineering fundamentals with practical MBSE expertise and experience using SysML-based modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, this individual will help establish a robust digital engineering environment, maintain end-to-end traceability, and translate complex system needs into clear, actionable models.

This position may be filled at the MBSE I, II, or III level based on the candidate’s experience, technical background, and demonstrated capabilities. Depending on experience, the selected candidate may support or lead architecture development, modeling activities, technical reviews, and cross-functional systems engineering efforts.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and manage system architecture models using SysML and established MBSE methodologies.
  • Create structural, behavioral, interface, and requirements-traceability views that clearly communicate system architecture and behavior.
  • Support requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, traceability, and verification throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Define and maintain system interfaces across software, hardware, test, cybersecurity, and operational domains.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote system-level integration, technical consistency, and alignment.
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, technical reviews, and engineering assessments.
  • Contribute to digital engineering initiatives, including integration with requirements-management, configuration-management, and product-lifecycle-management tools.
  • Conduct trade studies, architecture evaluations, risk assessments, and technical analyses to inform engineering decisions.
  • Develop and apply MBSE modeling standards, workflows, governance processes, and best practices appropriate to program needs.
  • Communicate technical concepts, modeling results, risks, and engineering recommendations to technical stakeholders and program leadership.
  • Manage multiple technical priorities while supporting program schedules, milestones, and customer expectations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continued development of MBSE capabilities across the organization, as appropriate for the position level.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional experience in systems engineering, MBSE, or a closely related engineering field, consistent with one of the following levels:
    • MBSE I: At least 3 years of relevant experience.
    • MBSE II: At least 5 years of relevant experience, including the demonstrated ability to perform systems engineering activities with limited supervision.
    • MBSE III: At least 8 years of relevant experience, including technical leadership on complex engineering programs and the ability to lead architecture development, technical reviews, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
  • Experience developing system models using Cameo Systems Modeler or another SysML-based MBSE tool.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements management, traceability, and verification and validation methodologies.
  • Experience supporting engineering activities in multidisciplinary and cross-functional development environments.
  • Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts and tailor communications to different audiences.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with internal teams, customers, and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated approach to identifying design challenges and resolving technical problems efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering solutions that meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Proficiency with common Microsoft business applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, Teams, and SharePoint.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience implementing or supporting MBSE practices on defense, aerospace, simulation, training, or similarly complex engineering programs.
  • Knowledge of digital engineering strategies, frameworks, and digital-thread concepts.
  • Experience integrating MBSE tools with requirements-management and product-lifecycle-management environments, such as IBM Engineering DOORS Next, Polarion, or comparable platforms.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework, Unified Architecture Framework, or related architecture frameworks.
  • INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP certification.
  • Active Department of Defense security clearance.
Employment Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract and security requirements associated with supporting the U.S. warfighter.
  • Background screening: Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment background screening.
  • Security clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense security clearance. The selected candidate may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Schedule flexibility: Occasional overtime or alternate shifts may be required to support customer schedules, critical deadlines, or program milestones.
  • Travel: Candidates must be willing and able to travel domestically and occasionally internationally to customer sites, partner locations, or project meetings.
  • Drug-free workplace: Applicants and employees are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with company policy.
  • Employment contingency: Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of applicable background checks, security-clearance requirements, and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in small or confined spaces, including simulator cockpits.
  • Ability to perform primarily computer-based work involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Ability to periodically stand, walk, bend, and carry documents, books, or similar materials.
  • Ability to perform additional physical tasks that may be specific to the work location, department, or assigned program.

Responsibilities, technical authority, and scope of work will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience and position level.
