Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager for the Intermediate Care Unit and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Vocation Nurse, the Monitor Technician provides continual telemetry monitoring, as well as a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services to the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring admission to the Unit. The Monitor Technician is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse in providing high-quality patient care activities as delegated by and under the supervision of the registered professional nurse pursuant to the mission and objectives of the hospital. The Monitor Technician will appropriately communicate with physicians, co-workers, volunteers, other hospital departments, and patient family members. The Monitor Technician must be able to assess own learning needs to enhance personal and professional development. The Monitor Technician will increase knowledge and skills related to patient care by attending workshops, formal classes, seminars and in-services. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on assigned area. 

What you will do in this role:

  •  In collaboration with licensed staff, organizes patient care and general unit activities to accomplish required functions. 
  • Applies knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the lifespan to identify patient and family requirements relative to age specific needs. 
  • Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the patient and his family with a focus on the developmental level of the patient and his level of understanding.
  •  Adapts patient care activities to meet the needs of the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient and his family with a focus on special precautions to minimize the potential for patient injury.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse:
  • Provides patient care utilizing correct principles, procedures and techniques.
  • Accepts responsibility for performance of duties.
  •  Anticipates potential patient care problems and/or emergencies and reports these to the primary nurse.
  • Provides a safe environment for the provision of nursing care to individual patients by maintaining the patient room in an orderly manner and assisting in maintaining neatness of work environment.
  •  Prioritizes and organizes care to be given to each patient, using patient input when possible.
  • Completes work within acceptable time limits.
  •  Makes best use of time during shift.
  • Performs several tasks simultaneously during peak workload situations.
  •  Demonstrates a through knowledge of work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation, and infectious hazards.
  • Assumes responsibility for own communications and communicates through appropriate channels.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor informed of patient care problems.
  • Facilitates overall operation of the IMU Department.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of stock supplies in the department

What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
