ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Natrium Lead Pump Engineer for a first-of-a-kind advanced nuclear reactor demonstration program, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in rotating machinery design and technical supplier management looking to further their career in next-generation energy engineering.
Serve as the technical lead and primary point of contact for the design and development of the Primary Sodium Pump (PSP) and Intermediate Sodium Pump (ISP), from preliminary design through prototype testing and qualification.
Own supplier oversight for the pump designer - conducting design reviews, materials reviews, and long-lead readiness reviews, while removing technical blockers and maintaining schedule alignment.
Coordinate subject matter experts across the rotating machinery team and interface with multidisciplinary engineering groups including systems, IHX, instrumentation & controls, and civil/structural.
Support pump development through thermal hydraulic and mechanical analyses, test planning, and technical review of vendor deliverables - including acceptance of owner-side deliverables.
Drive alignment on physical and fluid interface requirements, ASME code application, and NQA-1 quality standards across the pump program.
Contribute to primary heat transport system design activities including P&ID development, design basis documentation, and licensing support as needed.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Aerospace, Nuclear, or Electrical considered) with 12+ years of experience in design engineering; advanced degrees accepted in lieu of experience.
Demonstrated experience in rotating machinery or complex mechanical component design - centrifugal or axial pumps, turbomachinery, or similarly complex moving mechanical systems strongly preferred.
Proven track record of supplier coordination and technical project management in a senior or lead engineering capacity.
Experience working within formal quality programs; ASME NQA-1 or equivalent highly preferred.
Strong communication, organization, and cross-functional leadership skills - this role is approximately 70% technical project management and 30% individual technical contribution.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with reactor coolant pump design or sodium-cooled system components.
Familiarity with ASME Section III or Section VIII code application to rotating equipment.
Background in pump testing and qualification programs, including writing test specifications and acceptance criteria.
Prior experience in nuclear, naval, or advanced energy programs.
