What you'll do

Viasat is looking for an experienced network architect to lead design and architecture of our Government SATCOM orchestration and service delivery platforms! We are developing large scale multi-network satellite orchestration platforms that provide real-time situational awareness and command and control capabilities to a global fleet of high value aircraft. We need your help to drive the design and architecture of the large-scale enterprise and backbone networks supporting these products.

The day-to-day

  • Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and sustainment of our enterprise and backbone networks
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of Systems, Software, Cybersecurity, and Cloud engineers to deliver a holistic networking solution
  • Quickly iterate and update network designs to meet rapidly evolving customer needs
  • Act as the SME for Network infrastructure and mentor more junior network engineers supporting the product
  • Innovate ways to scale by applying automation and operational improvements
  • Perform trade studies and vendor comparisons to ensure Viasat is implementing the best solutions for our problems
  • Stay on top of trends in industry and technology, evaluating their usefulness and applicability to the problems Viasat is solving

What you'll need

  • 5+ years hands-on experience in networking

  • 2+ years experience as a network architect

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field or equivalent experience

  • CCNP or higher certification, or equivalent experience

  • Strong understanding of datacenter, service provider and cloud networking

  • Strong understanding of cloud and on‑prem physical or virtual infrastructure

  • Experience automating and managing complex network infrastructure at scale

  • Experience with:

  • Background with L2/L3 networking protocols and security concepts

  • Multi-Vendor layer 3 routing protocols (BGP, HSRP, OSPF, etc.)

  • WAN/LAN/SDN/MPLS

  • Cisco and Juniper based networks

  • US Government position. US Citizenship required

  • Must hold an active United States Top Secret Clearance

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • Must be able to work out of our office in Carlsbad, CA

What will help you on the job

  • Experience with System level design
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS, Azure, or other cloud providers
  • Knowledge of hardening and security concepts
  • Knowledge of SD-WAN architecture/design
  • Palo Alto, and/or Fortinet experience
  • Strong proficiency with network monitoring protocols and tools

Salary range

$147,000.00 - $232,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $183,000.00- $274,000.00/ annually
