    New Accounts Representative

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Branch Service Manager, the New Accounts Representative is responsible for processing a variety of new accounts for customers, including checking, IRA, CD, and other deposit accounts. Collects required information from new account customers and completes the account setup process, including data input, verifying references, and documentation. Processes account changes/supersedes and assists with daily audit certification (ICRP) responsibilities.

    The New Accounts Representative provides information and answers questions regarding interest rates, fees, and bank policies. May complete the process to transfer accounts for customers. Duties also include responding to customer inquiries and requests, resolving complex customer issues, operating a cash drawer daily, processing various types of transactions, and complying with all bank policies and procedures, including service, attendance, and teller standards. Additionally, the New Accounts Representative makes appropriate referrals to cross-sell a variety of bank services and assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal banking regulations.

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assists consumer and business customers in selecting various accounts, products, and financial services available from the Bank; ensures cross-sell opportunities are presented by applying professional sales techniques.
    • Interviews customers to obtain information; establishes proper identification of new customers; and determines the need and extent of reference investigations.
    • Makes decisions regarding the opening of new accounts; assigns account numbers; completes forms requiring customer signatures; checks credit history; accepts initial deposits; and prepares all documents and items pertaining to checking accounts, savings accounts, and certificates of deposit for processing.
    • Accurately processes all teller transactions, including over-the-counter, night drop, courier, and mail transactions.
    • Operates computer terminals to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems within given authority.
    • Maintains knowledge of the new account opening and servicing process, including gathering proper documentation and conducting customer interviews.
    • Cross-sells products and services when opportunities are recognized in support of branch campaign programs.
    • Provides leadership and guidance to BSR staff and communicates training or service concerns to the Branch Service Manager.
    • Assists management with daily reports and the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as assigned.
    • Supports branch audit certification (ICRP) processes as assigned.
    • Complies with bank operations and security procedures and participates in all dual-control functions. Safety and security are always a priority.
    • Provides effective customer service by answering customer questions, investigating and correcting errors, and resolving problems or other issues.
    • Records, files, scans, and updates information and sorts mail or reports as required.
    • Gathers data and processes various reports and callbacks.
    • Deals effectively with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
    • Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills.
    • Works with general supervision while performing assigned duties.
    • Responds to customer inquiries and requests, resolves customer issues, operates a teller drawer daily, processes various types of transactions, and complies with all bank policies and procedures, including service, attendance, and teller standards.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

    Position Specifications

    Education

    Associate's Degree in Business or equivalent experience.

    Experience

    Three or more years of new accounts experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Work-related experience should consist of a financial institution operations, sales, or customer service background.

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Broad knowledge of new account documentation, including fiduciary accounts, corporations, and related account types.
    • Intermediate experience, knowledge, and training in branch operations, terminology, and products and services relating to retail and commercial account customers.
    • Broad knowledge of applicable state and federal banking compliance regulations and other Bank operational policies.
    • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, mainframe computer systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and account-opening software programs.
    • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
    • Broad knowledge of general office practices.
    • Basic math skills, including the ability to calculate interest and balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to locate and correct routine mathematical errors and accurately count currency, coin, and negotiable instruments in a timely manner.
    • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and communicate clearly with customers and employees.
