POSITION: Non-CDL Van Driver McKinney Vento Program - Title 1

REPORTS TO: Title 1 Coordinator

COORDINATES WITH: Title 1 Department, Transportation Coordinator, building principals

WORK YEAR: School Year, 184 days

WORK SCHEDULE: 20 hours/week, split schedule, mornings and afternoons (Monday through Friday)

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Non-CDL Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students experiencing homelessness, as defined under the McKinney-Vento Act, to and from school and related educational activities. This role ensures consistent school attendance by providing reliable, safe, and respectful transportation while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity to student needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely operate a school district van in compliance with all local, state, and district transportation policies.
  • Transport students to and from school, including routes that may cross district boundaries.
  • Maintain consistent pick-up and drop-off schedules to support student attendance and stability.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure all passengers follow safety protocols, including seatbelt use.
  • Supervise boarding and unloading at stops; assist students with seatbelts and mobility aids.
  • Maintain order on the van to prevent distractions.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, mileage records, and incident reports as required.
  • Communicate effectively with transportation staff, school personnel, and program coordinators.
  • Provide a supportive and respectful environment for students, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Adapt routes and schedules as needed based on student mobility and program requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or behavioral concerns during transport.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Title 1 Coordinator, Transportation Coordinator or designee to support district operations and student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 21+ with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record (Non-CDL).
  • Ability to pass background checks, including fingerprinting, and driving record review.
  • Prior experience working with children or in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn McKinney-Vento regulations and student rights.
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized.
