Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking a Nuclear Mechanical Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity supporting operating commercial nuclear power facilities throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania. This position will focus on mechanical engineering design, plant modifications, technical evaluations, and engineering support for nuclear power generation projects.
The ideal candidate will have professional mechanical design engineering experience, preferably within commercial nuclear power generation or other highly regulated industrial environments.
Prepare mechanical engineering calculations, technical evaluations, specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
Support the design and evaluation of piping systems, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, HVAC systems, fluid systems, and other plant mechanical equipment.
Perform equipment sizing, pressure-drop calculations, heat-transfer analysis, and system-performance evaluations.
Develop and support plant modification packages, engineering-change packages, and associated design documentation.
Conduct field walkdowns to verify existing plant conditions and support engineering design activities.
Participate in design reviews, testing, installation, implementation, and troubleshooting activities.
Coordinate with engineering, design, construction, licensing, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
Support plant upgrades, outages, and engineering modifications while maintaining compliance with applicable nuclear industry standards and procedures.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
Minimum of 2 years of professional mechanical design engineering experience.
Experience preparing mechanical calculations, technical evaluations, engineering drawings, specifications, or design packages.
Experience with mechanical systems and equipment such as piping, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, HVAC, or fluid systems.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently on assigned engineering tasks while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Willingness and ability to travel between project locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Note: Experience limited to maintenance, construction, fabrication, installation, operations, project management, or commissioning does not satisfy the mechanical design engineering requirement unless the candidate has also performed professional mechanical design engineering duties.
Previous mechanical engineering experience at an operating commercial nuclear power plant.
Experience supporting nuclear plant modifications, engineering changes, or extended power uprate (EPU) projects.
Familiarity with nuclear engineering design processes, field walkdowns, implementation, and outage support.
Mechanical design and modification experience within power generation, DOE facilities, chemical, petrochemical, or other regulated industrial environments.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Position requires travel to operating nuclear power facilities throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Work will be performed in both office and industrial plant environments, including security-controlled areas.
Must be able to perform field walkdowns, climb ladders, and access elevated or confined work areas as required.
Flexibility to support plant outages, implementation activities, and overtime when necessary.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment sponsorship.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain required nuclear facility access, including unescorted access when applicable.
Must successfully complete required background checks, drug screening, onboarding, training, and site-access requirements.
Must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements when assignments involve controlled information or technology.
Position level will be determined based on education, licensure, relevant mechanical design experience, technical capabilities, and demonstrated engineering responsibilities.
