GENERAL SUMMARY:

  • Under the direction of a Radiologist, specializes in the performance of procedures using various isotopes for the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
  • Performs related functions according to department protocols.
  • Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination.
  • Obtains additional information about the patient medical history as necessary.
  • Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.
  • Prepares prescribed radioactive isotopes for administration to patients.
  • Reviews clinical data on requisition, analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and following protocols performs the Nuclear Medicine scan.
  • Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied.
  • May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required to procedure to be performed.
  • Demonstrates on a consistent basis Team member standards of excellence including: AIDET, open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, respecting diversity, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Must be registered (or registry eligible) in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and/or The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire. Failure to obtain registry within designated timeframe will result in termination of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist position.
  • Must maintain required hours of continued medical education. Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
