Under limited supervision, the Instructor for Nurse Aide provides engaging and high-quality instruction while supporting student success through advising, mentorship, and academic engagement. Courses are taught in a variety of formats based on the needs of the department. Faculty at Pitt Community College contribute to departmental and institutional goals through curriculum development, committee service, professional development, and collaboration with colleagues across the college and NCCCS.

What Youll Do

• Prepares lectures, tests, syllabi, and teaches in the classroom and lab and conducts Clinical rotations.
• Teaches Nursing Assistant I, Nursing Assistant II, Nursing Assistant I Refresher, NA II Competency or Medication Aide classes as necessary.
• Maintains office hours to meet with students outside of class time to interact and assist students in various areas. Office hours duties will also include assisting the Director of Health Care Programs and/or the Nurse Aide Coordinator as necessary with the coordination of any health care courses. Will assist the Director of HealthCare Programs and/or the Nursing Assistant Coordinator with orientation of new part-time health care instructors.
• Performs related administrative and record keeping duties per the guidelines set forth by our governing agencies, the Division of Health Service Regulation and the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Will report to the Instructor/Coordinator Nurse Aide in the Continuing Education and Community Development Division.
• Remains active in professional organizations and activities. Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of nursing assisting courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.
• Maintain own Healthcare Provider-CPR status, immunization records and RN status up to date at all times.
• Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance report, grade sheets, evaluation forms, professional development forms, medical forms, checklists, purchase orders, memos, general letters of correspondence, and various other forms for the Nursing assisting program.
• Assists with preparing departmental objectives. Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as required.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing
• Current, unencumbered RN license to practice in North Carolina
• At least two (2) years (4,000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the US.
• Must meet at least one (1) of the following: have completed a course in teaching adult students; have experience in teaching adult students; or have experience in supervising nursing assistants

Preferred Qualifications

(list education/experience as well as licenses/certifications/etc. preferred)

• Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN)

Additional Information

Work Environment: Work is performed in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, virtual, classroom, laboratory, on campus and off campus locations. Work locations are equipped with standard instructional technology. Instructor positions require frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff. Occasional travel may be required for professional development, off-campus instruction, or college-related events. Based on the academic discipline, work environments may include exposure to heat, noise, dust, machinery, chemicals, etc. and requires appropriate PPE at all times.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

• Frequent standing for extended periods while lecturing or moving within the classroom
• Ability to perform fine motor skills, such as frequent keyboarding, using a mouse, or operating standard audiovisual and office equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds
• Occasionally must be able to reach, bend, stoop, or kneel to access files, equipment, or classroom materials
• Ability to observe, judge, and assess students work, exam performance, classroom behavior, and the thoroughness of assigned tasks.
• Ability to concentrate, focus, and convey complex subject matter effectively, as well as make rapid, logical decisions.
• Ability to travel between campus locations or external sites as needed.

NOTE: Technical Education and Health Science disciplines require the additional ability to:

• Frequently lift or carry up to 50-70 pounds
• Perform extended periods of bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or climbing
• Wear specialized safety gear and withstand varied environmental conditions

Working Hours: Full-Time, 12-month, faculty position. Posted office hours and semester schedule are required and should be sufficient to fulfill all duties, professional obligations, and meet the needs of the college. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for outreach activities, program support or professional development.
