The Facility

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base sits inside Tucson’s city limits, about 5 miles south-southeast of downtown, and is home to the 355th Wing and the famous 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group – the “boneyard” for the nation’s excess military aircraft. The base medical clinic delivers outpatient care to active-duty members, their families and retirees through a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team model, where the Family Nurse Practitioner serves as Primary Care Manager for a panel of patients from newborn to geriatric.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Primary Care Manager within a PCMH team, managing a panel of TRICARE Prime beneficiaries from newborns to older adults, in collaboration with a supervising physician.
• Take histories and perform exams, including annual and preventive health assessments, pre/post-deployment assessments, occupational, sports, fitness and newborn physicals.
• Diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric and adult acute and chronic conditions – diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, asthma, arthritic and musculoskeletal conditions, cancer surveillance, and behavioral health concerns.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and carry out treatment plans and follow-up; prescribe per the facility formulary.
• Perform in-scope procedures such as casting/splinting, suturing, excisional skin biopsies, vasectomies and micro-excisional dermatologic techniques.
• Coordinate referrals and consults, advise patients and staff by phone, secure messaging or in person, and stabilize and transfer emergencies as needed.
• Document in the electronic health record, including military-specific documentation such as medical profiles and narrative summaries for Medical Evaluation Boards.
• Promote prevention and healthy behaviors through patient education and counseling.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program
• National FNP certification through AANP or ANCC
• Active, full and unrestricted FNP license with no pending investigation or adverse action
• At least 24 months of primary care experience within the last 36 months
• Current PALS certification
• Experience with the military health system and its documentation is highly desirable

Schedule

Outpatient primary care clinic schedule, with a productivity target of about 90 appointments per week.
