The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is part of the Tulane University Campus Health team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting student health and wellbeing as a core institutional value through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach. This NP position resides within the CAPS for Counseling Services Department, and reports to the Lead Psychiatrist. The individual in this position is responsible for providing clinical services and participating in community engagement activities.
As a member of the CAPS Psychiatry Team, the NP conducts initial consultations and psychopharmacology evaluations, and provides clinical services including medication management. The NP also participates in designing and delivering outreach programs to students, as well as developing materials and presentations on topics pertinent to various University constituencies. The professional in this role participates regularly in Campus Health, psychiatry team, and CAPS staff meetings and trainings, and collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary staff in maintaining a consistently high standard of care.
Required Education and Experience:
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal training and/or experience as specialized psychiatric nurse practitioner
Experience with ongoing clinical management of psychopharmacology
Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner as regulated by the LSBN
University counseling center experience
Competency documenting services using an electronic medical records system
Ability to protect confidentiality and meet all ethical standards associated with the practice of psychology within a university counseling center context
Strong case formulation, assessment and treatment skills, including the ability to understand transference and countertransference in working clinically with a diversity of clients, issues and levels of impairment
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, able to dialogue effectively with a wide range of students, faculty and staff
Ability to effectively utilize an electronic medical records system
Ability to take the lead when appropriate, both administratively and clinically
Ability to collaborate collegially with a multidisciplinary staff, both within CAPS and throughout the University community
Knowledge of developmental trends and concerns of undergraduates, as well as graduate and professional students
Ability to engage in an ongoing pursuit of self-knowledge and understanding of own personal factors affecting clinical work
