Description
Penn Medicine is dedicated to our tripartite mission of providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in the field of medicine. Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical and business professionals across all disciplines. The Emergency Department (ED) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is looking for a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to work 12-hour shifts in alignment with the department’s APP clinical hour requirement. Shifts will be variable, with rotating start times; a weekend commitment will also be required. Clinical shifts may be across multiple downtown Penn EDs, with the primary site being HUP, Presbyterian (PPMC), or HUP Cedar Emergency Department.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) autonomously coordinates care for ED patients in the fast track, mid-track, and acute care areas. Common patient populations and chief complaints include chest pain, abdominal pain, infectious work-ups, syncope, orthopedic injuries, dermatologic issues, transplant complications, stroke/TIA work-ups, OB/GYN and GU issues, and other medical conditions. The APP performs independent visits as well as shared visits with attendings in all Emergency Departments.
The APP will provide safe, high quality, comprehensive care to patients in a fast-paced and dynamic ED that emphasizes patient flow and throughput. The APP will complete focused history and physical exams, and order and interpret labs, EKG/telemetry, and other diagnostic studies. The APP will be responsible for ordering medications and coordinating patient care plans, often requiring consultation with other disciplines.
A successful APP will have strong, independent medical decision-making skills, be expertly skilled in multi-tasking, and have the ability to adapt to changing environments. Penn Medicine is looking for flexible, friendly, and patient-focused individuals to work in this large, academic teaching hospital.
