Position Overview
We are seeking dependable and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide healthcare services within a maximum-security male correctional facility in Romulus, New York.
The RN will provide direct nursing care, medication administration, patient assessment, emergency response, and ongoing clinical support within a highly structured correctional healthcare environment.
Multiple positions and shifts are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and support inmate sick call
- Triage patient complaints and determine appropriate clinical interventions
- Administer prescribed medications
- Administer insulin and provide diabetic care
- Perform health screenings and required clinical reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient health records
- Follow required tool-control and institutional security procedures
- Coordinate or assist with emergency room utilization when necessary
- Respond to medical emergencies, including Narcan administration
- Provide emergency care for asthma and other acute conditions
- Assess and provide nursing care for injuries related to physical-force incidents
- Respond to employee accidents and injuries as required
- Follow established procedures related to sexual abuse and assault reporting
- Complete required clinical and administrative responsibilities related to inmate deaths
- Document patient assessments, interventions, medications, and outcomes
- Follow all facility healthcare, safety, security, and confidentiality requirements
Required Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted New York State Registered Nurse license
- Strong patient assessment and triage skills
- Experience with medication administration and clinical documentation
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies
- Ability to work effectively in a maximum-security correctional environment
- Strong communication, organization, and professional judgment
- Ability to successfully complete all required background screening and facility clearances
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial:
- Correctional healthcare
- Emergency or urgent care
- Medical-surgical nursing
- Behavioral health
- Institutional healthcare
- Public-sector healthcare
Schedule & Facility Requirements
- Multiple shifts and schedules are available
- Holidays are not required, although holiday shifts may be available
- Overtime is not routinely required, but may occasionally be necessary based on facility needs
- Personal cell phones are not permitted inside the facility
- Background screening and correctional-facility clearance are required
- RNs must comply with all institutional safety and security protocols
