NEEDED: Nursing Assistant

LOCATION: 3301 Leestown Rd. Lexington, KY 40511

SCHEDULE(S):

  • 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, Sunday – Saturday
  • 3-ten-hour days and 1-eight-hour day a week for a total of 38 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a Nursing Assistant Certification program.
  • Must submit Certification as evidence of stated knowledge. 
  • All Nursing Assistants must have documentation they successfully completed training from an approved institution recognized by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and successfully completed a competency evaluation.
  • All Nursing Assistants must be registered and in good standing with the Kentucky Nurse’s Aide Registry and have completed the necessary continuing education required for the state of Kentucky. 
  • All continuing education requirements will have to be provided and maintained by the contractor.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) in performing AIC care activities for psychiatric and long term medical/surgical AIC.
  • Services include bedside care and assisting AIC with activities of daily living.
  • Activities of daily include but are not limited to dressing, feeding, bathing and hygiene maintenance. 
  • The Nursing Assistant delivers these services under the guidance of Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Assists the RN or LPN with AIC  as needed.  Assists with respiratory care (coughing, deep breathing, etc.). 
  • Assists with meals, oral fluids, and intake and output records.
  • Applies hot and cold treatments as directed and assists with ambulation and transfers as needed utilizing good body mechanics.
  • Observes drainage and empties, measures, and records output as delegated.
  • Assists with admissions and discharges, including stripping bed linen, cleaning and preparing room for new admissions. 
  • Performs designated tasks for isolation patients and assists with postmortem care.
  • Reports pertinent patient data in a timely manner to the medical staff including changes in the AIC’s condition requiring assessment and/or further evaluation.
  • Communicates any changes in behavior, vital signs, or significant incidents to the Nurse Supervisor or Supervisory Clinical Nurse.
  • Follow guidelines which require confidentiality with all patient information.
  • Prepares patient care area by restocking equipment and supplies needed by physicians and nurses performing treatments or exams. 
  • Assists with cleaning of medical and AIC care equipment as directed.
  • Communicates and interacts frequently with adult psychiatric and medical/surgical AIC.
  • Reminds AIC of call-outs and assists in the transportation of patients to call outs if necessary.
  • Checks AIC vital signs and weight and documents this data and pertinent observations in the AIC’s electronic medical record (EMR). 
  • Places armbands on patients and monitors compliance. 
  • Charts AIC care given and other data on the flowsheet in EMR.
  • Maintains sanitation of AIC care areas and observes infection control procedures and universal precautions in all instances.
  • Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification and initiates BLS in emergency situations.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with exams or treatments dealing with AIC care, including turning and positioning AIC, draping, and the use of safety restraints (e.g., safety straps, side rails, etc.) as necessary.
  • Assists with dressing changes and removes dressings at the direction of the physician.
  • All duties and tasks will be performed in accordance with Program Review.
  • Ascertains proper equipment needed, maintains clean and sterile fields, secures specimens for laboratory analysis, (i.e., urine, stool, sputum, etc.) labels specimens, and transports them to the laboratory.
