The Opportunity:

The Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, and financial performance of a skilled nursing facility. The Administrator ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role oversees all facility departments, promotes operational excellence, and fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and resident-centered care.

This position manages the daily operations of a 158-bed skilled nursing facility with an average census of approximately 105 residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the skilled nursing facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all CMS, state of Maryland, and federal regulations governing long-term care facilities.
  • Lead and support department heads, including Nursing, Rehabilitation, Dietary, Social Services, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Admissions, and Business Office.
  • Partner with the Director of Nursing to ensure the delivery of exceptional clinical care and positive resident outcomes.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies that improve quality, efficiency, resident satisfaction, and financial performance.
  • Oversee facility budgets, financial performance, census development, labor management, and expense control.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement action plans to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ensure survey readiness and lead the facility through state and federal inspections.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on employee engagement, accountability, retention, and professional development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, families, physicians, hospitals, referral partners, and community organizations.
  • Oversee admissions, census growth initiatives, and marketing efforts in collaboration with the admissions team.
  • Investigate and resolve resident, family, and employee concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure effective risk management, emergency preparedness, and regulatory reporting.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement through Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Current and active Maryland Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Nursing Home Administrator in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting.
  • Demonstrated success managing the operations of a skilled nursing facility with strong regulatory compliance and quality outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of CMS regulations, Maryland long-term care regulations, and reimbursement systems.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, and operational planning skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, resident-centered healthcare environment.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience improving facility census, quality measures, and survey performance.
  • Experience managing facilities with 100+ residents.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite at a 158-bed skilled nursing facility in Maryland with an average daily census of approximately 105 residents. The Administrator is expected to provide visible leadership throughout the facility, maintain regular interaction with residents, families, and staff, and participate in an on-call rotation as needed to ensure the effective operation of the facility.
