Reporting to the Nursing Director, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

Responsibilities

Position Accountabilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1. Maintains current professional licenses and/or certifications as and when required by state, regulatory agency, or hospital mandate.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of, and adheres to, all applicable professional/regulatory practice acts, state/ federal regulations, and policies and procedures of San Ramon Regional Medical Center (SRRMC) and TENET CORPORATION.
3. Determines staffing requirements to assure safe and competent patient care. Considers patient acuity, age specific needs of patients, staff skill mix, and individual patient’s plan of care when making assignments. Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in volume, emergencies, staffing, or schedule changes
4. Assists the Nurse Director with employee evaluations and performance management. Utilizes observation techniques, chart review, and patient interviews to evaluate staff nurse performance and quality of patient care delivered. Assists employees to improve/maintain performance by establishing goals with measurable performance outcomes, action plans, and time frames.
5. Monitors the safety of the work environment.
6. Assists the Nurse Director in developing unit goals and plans for evaluating and achieving those initiatives.
7. Participates with the Nurse Director in interviewing candidates.
8. Assists in coordination of new hire orientation, education, competency verification and development of staff. Integrates education programs with appropriate clinical experiences to promote professional growth of staff.
9. Assists Director with schedules, time and attendance, quality improvement projects, reports, documents, and files.
10. Demonstrates basic understanding of budget requirements. Maintains supplies and productivity within guidelines. Develops strategies to effectively utilize “down time” on designated shift.
11. Seeks and accepts responsibility for committee participation, special projects, and teaching presentations.
12. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
13. Adheres to SRRMC practices for pain management with specific consideration of patient’s functional/developmental age, gender, cultural and/or personal preferences.
14. Demonstrates appropriate use of restraints per SRRMC policy and procedures.
15. Adheres to SRRMC practices for moderate sedation. Identifies resources for guidelines to ensure safe care and monitoring of patients.
16. Identifies patients at risk for abuse as well as associated signs and symptoms. States mandatory reporting requirements for healthcare professionals.
17. Ensures patient safety by assessing and proactively implementing safety measures with specific consideration of patient’s functional and developmental age.
18. Provides appropriate nursing interventions. Competent in all routine nursing skills and identified unit specific skills.
19. Provides compassionate and caring support to families.
20. Demonstrates the ability to provide appropriate interventions in patient care emergencies and follows established emergency procedures. Takes appropriate action in emergency situations and develops others’ ability to do so. Assists staff in prioritizing, as needed.
21. Determines the presence and type of Advance Directive, as appropriate. Contacts appropriate resources to assist the patient and family as needed.
22. Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided to patients, including an evaluation of patients’ response to medications, treatments and procedures.
23. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates effectiveness of care performed.
24. Accesses facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities. Follows Medical Center’s policy and procedure as they pertain to all hospital information systems.
25. Practices Standard Precautions while providing patient care and performing other hospital services.
26. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the hospital’s environment of care plan.
27. Actively supports the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals. Participates in activities within the organization that support performance improvement.

36. Completes .edu’s and other required hospital education by the due date.
37. Adheres to SRRMC Behavior Standards.
38. Complies with San Ramon Regional Medical Center Policies/Procedures protecting patient information and the confidentiality of the information in accordance with the Federal and State regulations.
39. Expresses and accepts feedback in a professional manner.
40. Demonstrates the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and use time efficiently to complete work on time and in an organized manner.
41. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing preferred

Minimum Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum of three (3) years recent acute care experience or equivalent in the ICU department 
  • Recent Charge/Supervisor experience in an acute care setting, ICU preferred 

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:

  • Current California RN license 
  • Current BLS certification for Health Care Providers (AHA certified)
  • Current ACLS certification (AHA certified)
  • Current PALS certification (AHA certified) (must obtain within 90 days of hire/ transfer)
  • Current CPI – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (within 90 days of hire/ transfer) 
  • CCRN, CVS, CRRT preferred

Age-Specific Care Requirements:

  • Knowledge and understanding of differences in care requirements for the pediatric (3 to 12 years), 
    adolescent (13 to 17 years), adult (18 to 70 years), and geriatric (71+ years) including, but not limited 
    to: growth and development, medications, and special physical and psychosocial needs. Modifies 
    nursing care as appropriate.

San Ramon Regional Medical Center has continued to provide increasingly advanced inpatient, outpatient, and 24-hour emergency services since its opening in 1990.

In 2011, San Ramon Regional opened its new 8,900-square-foot emergency department, expanding from nine to 16 beds, and featuring private treatment rooms, negative-pressure isolation room, dedicated X-ray suite, and a large comfortable waiting room.
