Job Description

Job Title: NVH Chassis Dyno Technician

Job Description

The NVH Chassis Dyno Technician supports noise and vibration testing in a chassis dynamometer lab, ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery of test data for full-vehicle evaluations. This role works closely with engineering teams to plan and execute tests that support federal regulatory and internal vehicle performance requirements. The technician sets up instrumentation and test automation systems, operates chassis dyno equipment, and contributes to vehicle development by collecting, reviewing, and troubleshooting test data. Positions are available across all three shifts, offering the opportunity to work on a variety of vehicle programs in a dynamic lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, build, install, and tear down instrumentation for a wide range of NVH and chassis dyno tests requested by engineering teams.
  • Set up, configure, and troubleshoot test automation systems and non-intrusive driving robots used during chassis dyno testing.
  • Evaluate test results and produce accurate, high-quality data in accordance with Vehicle Technical Specifications and federal regulatory requirements, following documented procedures.
  • Investigate mechanical and electrical operational issues on vehicles, components, and test properties to support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and computer/software problems related to test equipment, data acquisition systems, and vehicle properties.
  • Schedule workload, manage test equipment usage, and coordinate calibration activities to ensure test readiness and equipment reliability.
  • Perform vehicle installation onto the chassis dyno, including centering, strapping, and securing the vehicle, and oversee removal and ongoing monitoring during tests.
  • Work with vehicle communication and data logging tools such as INCA, V-spy, General CAN, and NeoVi to support data acquisition and analysis.
  • Execute test plans based on scheduled dyno time and work tickets, preparing vehicles and equipment for testing, and moving between dyno cells as needed to support multiple teams.
  • Run full-vehicle tests by collaborating with engineers to conduct specified drive cycles that simulate road conditions, collect data, review results, and implement changes to parts or systems when required.
  • Use hand and air tools to perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of vehicle components, test fixtures, and instrumentation hardware.
  • Coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining effective communication with engineering staff and fellow technicians.
  • Perform repetitive physical activities including bending, twisting, pulling, and lifting vehicle components up to 50 pounds unassisted, and moving test equipment and portable tools weighing approximately 70200 pounds around the shop.
  • Conduct overhead and under-dash assembly and disassembly operations on each build and stand for extended periods while performing build and test tasks.
  • Operate vehicle movers, walkies, or fork trucks to safely move vehicles and equipment within the facility.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and adhere to safety standards to ensure a clean and safe lab and shop environment.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all customer and test data at all times.
  • Identify, target, and complete continuous improvement ideas to enhance department processes, efficiency, and test quality.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams and other technicians, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers.
  • Handle basic project assignments with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and ownership of assigned work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a Noise and Vibration / Chassis Dyno laboratory that focuses on full-vehicle testing. The technician works in dyno cells and shop areas where vehicles are brought in, centered on the dynamometer, strapped down, and run through various drive cycles to simulate real-world road conditions. The environment is hands-on and technical, involving regular use of hand and air tools, test automation systems, vehicle communication tools, and data acquisition equipment. Work is organized through an online schedule and work ticket system, and technicians may support multiple dyno cells, moving between them to assist different engineering teams as needed. Positions are available on all three shifts, offering flexibility and exposure to a variety of test programs. The work is physically active, requiring frequent lifting of vehicle components, movement of test equipment, and extended periods of standing while performing builds and tests. The facility emphasizes good housekeeping and safe practices, with a culture focused on collaboration, continuous improvement, and protecting the confidentiality of all customer data. Attire is typical for a lab and shop environment, with practical clothing suitable for hands-on mechanical work and adherence to safety-related dress requirements.
