The Upper Peninsula is not a compromise — it's a deliberate choice. The Keweenaw Peninsula sits on the southern edge of Lake Superior, and the landscape here is genuinely unlike most of the country: dense hardwood forests, copper-tinged shoreline, trails that stretch for miles without a crowd. Winters are deep and real, and the people who choose to live here tend to stay. Michigan Tech anchors the local community with intellectual energy and a diverse population that punches well above the region's size. The pace is human-scale, the commute is minimal, and the connection to the outdoors is immediate.
This is a 36-bed acute care hospital that has served the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 128 years. It supports a multispecialty medical community with more than 40 physicians and a broad range of allied health professionals. The facility holds accreditation as a Chest Pain Center, Silver Plus Award recognition for Stroke Care, Level III trauma center designation, and a Highest Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group. Services span emergency medicine, ICU, a family birthing center, oncology, surgical services including robotics, rehabilitation, and a comprehensive imaging suite — all within one campus. The OB Director joins a leadership team that is actively investing in staff development and quality outcomes.
