OBL - Registered Nurse- Surgery

Coordinates patient care activity in the OBL and on the phone, providing necessary support to the surgeon within pre, intra and post operative phases of care. Patient care activities within scope of nursing practice will include but not limited to patient assessment, medication management, collaboration with healthcare providers, patient education, procedural management, surgical scrubbing and assistance with procedures, and a variety of medically related tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides compassionate and high-quality nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients in the department.
• Collects, interprets, records and communicates pertinent data relative to the patient's peri-anesthesia and peri-operative care.
• Initiates and implements patient care plan and maintains evidence-based standards of patient care. Continuously evaluates the patient's response to nursing interventions and modifies the plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.
• Performs routine lab testing, including but not limited to: blood glucose monitoring, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
• Assists surgeon with procedures and minor surgical procedures. Maintaining aseptic technique, setting up of sterile field.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree, Associate's Degree, or diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution
• Current Maryland Licensure or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure
• Two to three years clinical experience in clinical setting
• CPR and ACLS required

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidates geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
