Overview:

Pediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant who treats patients, birth through 21 years of age, in an outpatient nonprofit pediatric clinic-based setting.

Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical treatment to improve client occupational performance as directed by the supervising occupational
    therapist.
  • Provide direct treatment specific to pediatric areas of practice including but not limited to ADL performance,
    developmental disorders, biomechanical deficits, sensory processing or integration deficits, emotional regulation,
    cognitive skill, social participation, and more.
  • Provide caregiver education/training as well as communicate with families about plan of care and goal progress.
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation standards in a timely manner via Epic
    software.
  • Maintain adequate caseload with appropriate productivity.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and clean work area and adhere to facility/company safety standards.
  • Collaborate with supervising occupational therapist(s) in observation sessions and OT team meetings to enhance
    client care.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Participate in team and department meetings and proactive efforts to achieve company and departmental goals.
  • Collaborate and maintain cooperative working relationships with all members of the care team in providing
    patient‐centered care.
  • Participate in resource seeking and advocating for patients through community resources, referral sources,
    agencies and colleagues (PT and SLP).
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong consultation skills for communicating with therapy team, parents and patients.
  • Skill in providing a variety of interventions with knowledge of areas of practice specific to pediatrics.
  • Knowledge of developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, biomechanical
    disorders, neuromuscular disorders, fine motor, visual motor, and visual perceptual impairments,
    and more.
  • Knowledge of treatment approaches and interventions as utilized to treat disorders listed.
  • Problem solving and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with therapy team, caregivers and clients.
  • Skill in time management such as assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Knowledge of the regulations and practice standards of Pediatric Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience/knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation process and requirements, as well as all
    federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a Federally
    Qualified Health Center.
  • Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH)
    environment.
Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Complete Accredited OTA Program from AOTE certified school or Pass the National Board of Occupational Therapist (NBCOT) COTA Exam

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE
Active and unrestricted license to practice as Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Texas

 

REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR) Current Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Will be required to maintain a current CPR certification during
employment.
