Job Description

JOB TITLE: OMS SME
JOB LOCATION: REMOTE
WAGE RANGE*: 75.00-80.00 per hour
JOB NUMBER: 26-01611

JOB DESCRIPTION

OMS Strategy and Requirements
Act as the primary subject matter expert for OMS strategy and capabilities, including order capture and normalization, order validation, payment and fraud checks, inventory promising and available-to-promise (ATP), sourcing and routing, order splitting and bundling, fulfillment, modifications, cancellations, returns, and exceptions.
Define the OMS as the single, authoritative system of record for orders across stores, eCommerce, marketplaces, dealers, and call center, with consistent order lifecycle and status control.
Document current-state order flows, promise logic, exception handling, and manual workarounds, and identify the gaps a modern OMS must close.
Define how the OMS coordinates with manufacturing and supply planning for company-produced merchandise, including production-capacity-aware promise dates, hand-offs of customer orders to plant scheduling and ERP or MRP systems, status visibility through build, ship, and delivery, and rules for sourcing between in-house production, outside suppliers, and available inventory.
Define future-state OMS capabilities and requirements for special-order and made-to-order products, including multi-piece orders with different lead times, supply-chain-aware promise dates, and drop-ship and dealer fulfillment.

Vendor Evaluation and Selection
Evaluate OMS vendors against prioritized business, functional, technical, and integration requirements, with attention to orchestration depth, sourcing rules flexibility, ATP accuracy, store and dealer fulfillment, returns handling, scalability, and total cost of ownership.
Develop scripted demonstration scenarios, scorecards, and RFP content, and support vendor demonstrations, scoring sessions, reference checks, and final recommendations.
Assess OMS platform architecture, including cloud-native versus legacy deployment, API maturity, extensibility, configurability of rules, uptime commitments, and vendor viability.

Integration and Stakeholder Alignment
Define how the OMS shares order, inventory, customer, pricing, payment, tax, and fulfillment data with ERP, WMS, TMS, POS, eCommerce, CPQ, PIM, CRM, payment, and carrier systems, typically through a common middleware layer, and where each system is the system of record.
Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder interviews with order management, customer service, store operations, supply chain, logistics, finance, eCommerce, and IT teams to align on priorities and build consensus.
Review solution designs, test scenarios, and mobilization plans for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with retail best practices.

Equal opportunity employer as to all protected groups, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Ten or more years of retail technology experience, including significant hands-on work with OMS in strategy, selection, implementation, or optimization roles.
Furniture retail experience:  Direct, hands-on experience in furniture or home furnishings retail, including both company-owned stores and dealer or independent-retailer channels. Vertically integrated manufacturer-retailer understanding:  Working knowledge of how a furniture retailer that manufactures a significant share of its own merchandise operates, including the interplay between company-owned plants, contract and import suppliers, distribution centers, and stores. Understands that production capacity, build schedules, raw material and component availability, and plant-to-store logistics directly shape order promising, and can distinguish how orders for made-in-house, sourced, and in-stock products must be sourced, promised, and fulfilled.
Working knowledge of leading OMS platforms and the vendor landscape. Examples include Manhattan Active Omni, IBM Sterling Order Management, Salesforce Order Management, Fluent Commerce, Oracle Retail Order Management, and Kibo, or comparable solutions.
Deep understanding of distributed order management, including sourcing and routing rules, available-to-promise and inventory visibility, order splitting, store and dealer fulfillment, drop ship, backorders, returns, exchanges, and exception handling.
Proven experience leading or contributing to system selections, including requirements definition, RFP development, scripted demonstrations, vendor scoring, reference checks, and executive recommendations.
Strong understanding of the order-to-cash lifecycle, including deposits, payments, tax, pricing and promotions, inventory availability, fulfillment, invoicing, and customer service.
