    Position Title: On-call Registered Nurse I

    Department: Nursing

    Reports To: Director of Nursing

    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is primarily responsible for providing direct nursing care to a diverse patient population. Responsibilities include medication administration, patient education and counseling, health maintenance, assessment of patient health needs and available resources, and the delivery of appropriate nursing care and interventions to designated patient populations.

    As an On-Call Registered Nurse, the employee participates in assigned on-call coverage to support patient care and operational needs. The employee must remain available during assigned on-call periods, respond within established time frames, and report to the designated TTC facility when called to work. On-call assignments may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational and patient-care needs.

    The position provides services to individuals across one or more age groups, including adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. The nurse is expected to demonstrate an understanding of the developmental, functional, and age-specific needs of each individual served and to provide care appropriate to those needs. The nurse must also possess the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, appropriately interact with, and provide compassionate care to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.

    ON-CALL SCHEDULE

    Shifts will fall between 6pm-6am or 6am-6pm.

    ON-CALL SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

    • Maintain current availability and contact information with Nursing leadership/scheduling.
    • Acknowledge calls, texts, or scheduling notifications as soon as reasonably practicable and within the established response time frame.
    • When called to report for duty, arrive at the assigned facility/unit within the established reporting timeframe; 1 hour from first call or reach out.
    • Report to the assigned facility/unit within the designated reporting timeframe once called in
    • Remain within a reasonable travel distance while on-call to meet response expectations.
    • Refrain from activities that would impair ability to safely report to duty, including alcohol or sedating substances.
    • Ensure required licenses, certifications, training, and health clearances remain current while eligible for on-call assignment.
    • Follow call-off procedures and provide prompt notice if unavailable due to illness, emergency, fatigue, or another reason impacting fitness for duty.
    • Complete handoff/report expectations when called in, including communication with the Charge Nurse/Nursing Supervisor.
    • Document patient care, provider orders, medication administration, incidents, and shift-related activities timely and accurately.
    • Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance when communicating by phone or electronic systems while on-call.

    CATAGORIES OF DUTIES

    1. Plans and delivers nursing assessments and interventions, related medication, and psychiatric diagnoses of the patient.

    2. Completes pre-admission triage and determines appropriateness of admission.

    3. Administers medications to patients consistent with medication policies, practices, and standards. Must have necessary computer skills to use electronic medication systems.

    4. Competent in basic wound assessment and care.

    5. Communicates significant changes in patient's condition in a timely manner.

    6. Documents in patient's chart nursing goals, interventions, and clinical outcomes. Must be capable of charting in both electronic and manual patient records.

    7. Functions as an active member of the treatment care planning team.

    8. Responds to medical emergency situations.

    9. Competently uses equipment necessary for the delivery of patient care including but not limited to: glucometer, defibrillator, EKG machine, intermittent suction, bag/mask, oxygen, restraints/seclusions.

    10.Attends trainings as required for the position.

    11.Works collaboratively with the RN Charge Nurse to assure optimum patient outcomes.

    12.Able to provide wound care as ordered by a provider.

    13.Able to identify and report medical issues observed or determined at admission OR observed or identified by staff and report to the Charge Nurse for follow-up.

    14.Able to input notes and take and transcribe provider orders in the electronic medical record or the patient's record.

    15.Able to provide report to team regarding patient issues and care needs. 16.Understands the principles and ethics of nursing practice and applies them to daily work assignments.

    17.Able to identify possible infections, report and document as appropriate, initiate standard precautions if needed. 18.Administers waived tests (urine pregnancy test, blood glucose test, UA drug screen, breath alcohol test, hemoglobin [HbA1c], and COVID 19 & flu A+B tests) and maintains annual waived testing requirements/trainings.

    19.Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned by the Director of Nursing or designee.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

    • Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing
    • Two (2) year recent acute care experience preferred; behavioral or substance use setting preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

    • An active California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) license as a Registered Nurse (RN)
