Our client, an investment firm, is seeking an Onboarding Engineering Lead to join their team in New York, NY!

The Onboarding Engineering Lead will own the technical direction and delivery of the firm's enterprise onboarding and product-launch capability the engineering backbone supporting the launch of new investment products, the onboarding of new clients, and the expansion of existing client relationships. This role will report to an Enterprise Solutions Engineering leader given that so much of the onboarding process sits within ES.

Responsibilities:
Onboarding & Product Launch Platform Leadership

Own the technical architecture and roadmap for the firm's enterprise onboarding and product-launch utility, spanning core workflow tracking (status, dashboards, task routing), document management, and downstream system integration.
Lead the build-vs-buy decision and ongoing platform strategy across the current low-code onboarding workflow, potential platform extensions, and custom development, in partnership with the firm's engineering leadership and delivery partners.
Define and deliver the MVP horizontal build (a digital checklist / status tracker with task assignment, routing, and reporting) and prioritize vertical automation use cases e.g., custodian/administrator communication, document data extraction, and AML/KYC intake using workflow, integration, and agentic AI tooling.
Drive rollout sequencing across the firm's businesses, and
across product types SMAs, funds of one, private and registered commingled funds, co-investments, sub-advisory, and
platform structures.
Own technical integration planning with downstream operational systems (e.g., portfolio accounting,
custodian/administrator feeds, and investment guideline and compliance platforms) required for client and product go-live.

Engineering Delivery & Technical Leadership

Serve as the senior engineering point of contact for the program and establish an ongoing relationship with the programs business and delivery stakeholders.
Lead a hybrid delivery model combining the firm's engineering and third-party engineering resources, operating in agile sprints requirements definition, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
Recruit, onboard, and manage a small engineering team (proprietary developers and/or additional consultants) to build and extend the platform, with a mandate to grow into a permanent hire over time.
Set engineering standards for solution design, data model, UX handoff, and QA/UAT across delivery pods, ensuring consistency across product-type-specific workstreams.
Champion AI-assisted development and automation (e.g., AI-assisted prototyping, document extraction, agentic task execution) to compress delivery timelines and reduce long-term engineering dependency.

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Leadership (Enterprise Solutions)

Partner day-to-day with Business and Enterprise Solutions CPS, Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Legal to translate onboarding and product-launch requirements into a shared technical roadmap.
Represent Engineering in program governance forums (sponsor updates, steering syncs, Big 8 reporting) and communicate technical tradeoffs, timelines, and resourcing needs to business sponsors and firm leadership.
Build trusted relationships with functional leads across the value chain (e.g., Fund Finance, Operations, Compliance/AML-KYC, Legal / Fund Formation) to ensure the platform reflects real operating constraints, not just idealized workflow.

Required Qualifications:

8+ years of engineering experience, including leading technical delivery for client onboarding, product or fund launch, or comparable workflow-driven platforms within financial services or asset management.
Direct experience with the onboarding and launch lifecycle for institutional investment products private and registered commingled funds, funds of one, separately managed accounts (SMAs), and/or co-investment vehicles including contracting, KYC/AML, custodian/administrator setup, and operational readiness.
Understanding of how an alternative asset manager operates as both an originator of investment assets and a creator of investment products, and how that duality e.g., launching proprietary funds versus standing up client-directed SMAs shapes onboarding requirements.
Proven ability to navigate and align a large, matrixed organization including Client Portfolio Services, Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Legal to drive a cross-functional platform to delivery.
Hands-on experience managing both proprietary software development and third-party technology, including lowcode platforms and consulting delivery partners, with experience scoping statements of work and managing vendor performance.
Experience leading agile delivery teams (product owners, developers, QA, UX) through sprint-based delivery, including backlog management, release planning, and stakeholder demos.
Familiarity with workflow, automation, and AI-assisted tooling for document intake, extraction, and task automation (e.g., AI agents for custodian communication, IMA/LPA data extraction).
Strong executive communication skills able to brief senior business sponsors, resolve cross-functional escalations, and manage ambiguity in a fast-changing program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience at another alternative asset manager, bank, or asset servicer building or operating a client onboarding,new-business, or product-launch utility.
Familiarity with fund accounting and portfolio systems (e.g., VPM, Investran or comparable platforms) and reference /master data setup (pricing, LEI, reference data).
Experience with investor KYC/AML technology (e.g., managed-service AML/KYC review platforms) and compliance workflow integration.
Experience with CRM / pipeline tools used in onboarding coordination (e.g., Salesforce) and document management /repository platforms (e.g., Box).
Background in private credit, direct origination, or asset-backed strategies, or in supporting insurance-linked or thirdparty insurance mandates.
Experience transitioning a program from consultant-led delivery to an in-house engineering team.
Exposure to low-code / no-code workflow platforms (e.g., Kissflow, Bonitasoft, or comparable) and to build-vs-buy platform decisions.

Pay Rate: $100 - $120/hr
