Operating Room Assistant

Position Summary: Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Hospital. Assists licensed nursing staff in providing indirect and direct patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse and within the scope of defined practice.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Supports the mission and vision of McLaren Port Huron through behaviors that reflect and integrate our values, as evidenced by observation, peer and customer feedback.
• Provides for personal care of patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
• Maintains safe unit environment, supplies and equipment for patients and staff to facilitate patient care.
• Performs specific procedure and patient testing according to patient plan of care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
• Facilitates admission, discharge and transfer procedures for patients on and off unit.
• Provides for transportation of patients as requested by licensed nursing staff.
• Contributes to the effective communication and efficient operation needs of unit.
• Participates in a minimum of fifty (50%) of monthly departmental meetings.
• Demonstrates commitment to personal career growth and competency.
• Performs other related job duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school graduate or GED
• Satisfactory work record as delineated by previous work record

Preferred:

• Previous hospital experience
