1.0 Job Summary

Perform tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of assigned area of wastewater treatment plant, monitoring plant process, and operate task related heavy equipment

2.0 Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Perform tasks related to the operation of treatment facility. Perform sampling and testing related to monitoring wastewater facility including determining chemical feed rates in all applications. Troubleshoot maintenance issues with equipment and write work orders to get repaired. Support maintenance personnel with preventative, work order and project related maintenance tasks to minimize downtime of equipment. Communicate with plant personnel, customers, vendors, and others concerning the operation of facility. Operate vehicles for assigned areas. Perform house cleaning functions at facility. Perform other related duties as required.

3.0 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the use of chemicals within process requirements. Knowledge of the practices and procedures for dealing with potentially hazardous waste, including hazardous material response procedures. Knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in assigned area of wastewater treatment. Ability to read and understand manuals, monthly reports, regulations, material safety sheets. Ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary to compute chemical usage, cost per dry ton processed for sludge management, and other chemical and product performance information. Ability to write accurate and timely activity reports and instrument readings. Ability to communicate orally in person and by telephone and radio. Ability to operate heavy equipment specific to assigned task. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Ability to use various test equipment such as ammonia meter, pH meter, TOC machine etc., and interpret/apply test results in facility operations. Ability to use mechanical hand and power tools. Ability to perform basic mathematical calcula­tions.

4.0 Environmental conditions

Occasional requirement to perform job outdoors in periods of extreme heat (100o F) and cold (32o F) and in all weather conditions. Work performed primarily outdoors around potential mechanical, electrical, explosives, fume and odor, chemical, toxic waste with proper precautionary procedures and equipment.

5.0 Education, certification, and experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in wastewater treatment plant operations is desired.

Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

6.0 Physical requirements

Ability to sit while operating heavy equipment. Ability to complete paperwork. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch/stoop, squat, crawl, twist upper body, and climb while operating and maintaining belt press, and while gathering samples. Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate hand and power tools. Ability to grasp, push, pull, drag, and roll hand over hand heavy, bulky items such as 55-gallon drums and pipe sections. Ability to push buttons and twist dials to operate equipment and test meters. Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate sample bottles, valves, and test equipment.

Salary Range

$24.42 - $31.46
