    Job Description

    UPMC Vision Institute is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support our Shadyside location at 532 S. Aiken Avenue, Suite 520, Pittsburgh, PA 15232. This position offers varying shifts based on clinic needs, with hours scheduled between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM, and occasional requests for early arrivals or extended shifts to support patient care. There are no evenings or weekends required. Travel is required to UPMC Vision Institute locations including Oakland, Mercy, Forbes, Monroeville, St. Margaret's, Wexford, Natrona Heights, and Bethel Park.     Responsibilities:

    • History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
    • Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
    • Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
    • Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    Valid CPR certification

    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR
