We are a local Ophthalmology practice, specializing in the subspecialty of Retina, and have been in practice here in Tuscaloosa for almost 30 years. We treat serious eye diseases like Macular degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinal Detachments both medically and surgically. We are seeking great people to join our team

Our practice offers on the job training. We very strongly believe that it can be just as good, if not better, to have an intelligent, hard-working person with a great attitude who is willing and eager to learn, than an experienced person lacking those qualities. These qualities cannot be taught!

But if you also happen to be a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician, or have relevant experience, Great! Let's Talk!

This could be an especially great opportunity for someone interested in a future career as a nurse, medical assistant, physician, etc. Both part-time and full-time opportunities are available.

We work closely with patients and their families and want to find people who are caring, sympathetic and work well with the team.

Ophthalmic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Take medical histories and verify information.
  • Assist patients as they go through the office having exams and in office procedures.
  • Perform visual function and diagnostic tests, such as applanation in tonometry, OCT, OCTA, etc.
  • Inform ophthalmologist about changes to a patient's visual acuity and other vision issues.
  • Dilate eyes to prepare patients for their eye exam.
  • Explain how to properly use eye drops or other medications.
  • Assist with inventory management.
  • Assist with laser and other office based procedures.
  • Verify Insurances.
  • Obtain authorizations for procedures.

Ophthalmic Requirements and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Completion of an ophthalmic assistant or technician program strongly preferred (COA or COT).
  • Experience with eye measurement tools and testing techniques.
  • Experience with EMR tools a plus.
  • Experience using Nextgen and MDI software preferred.
  • Bilingual communication skills a plus.
  • Computer literacy.
