Outside Sales Representative, Industrial Capital Equipment
$150,000 to $200,000 in year one selling engineered scrap, trim, and dust handling systems into manufacturing plants across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. The territory has been uncovered for the better part of a year, so this is open ground rather than a crowded patch.
Veteran-Owned Base $100,000 Year 1 OTE $150,000 to $200,000 Commission Paid at Deposit 12-Month Guarantee
The Opportunity
Our client is a growing manufacturer and systems integrator of industrial scrap, trim, and dust handling equipment. The company designs, builds, installs, and services complete systems: large industrial balers, shredders, conveyors, and engineered pneumatic conveyance that pulls trim and scrap away from high speed production lines. It manufactures part of what it sells rather than only representing other brands, and it is building a national presence.
This seat owns the territory across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York, including lower New York and New York City. You inherit a base of existing accounts to work from, and the job is measured by the new equipment sales those relationships and the open ground around them produce. Corrugated box and packaging producers are among the largest customer categories, alongside paper converting, food and beverage, and distribution.
The sale starts on the production floor. You walk the plant, watch how trim and scrap move through it, and work out what the current setup is costing in labor, downtime, and floor space. From there you scope a solution with the in-house engineering and drafting team and carry it through a multi-stakeholder decision with plant managers, operations leaders, and owners. It is a genuine outside sales representative role with the technical depth of a technical sales engineer seat. Deals are six figures and up, projects take several months to a few years to come together, and the build and installation run roughly ten to fourteen weeks once the order is signed.
Why This Role
Earnings
$150,000 to $200,000 in Year One
A $100,000 base plus commission, with $50,000 to $100,000 in commission for a rep who performs. There is no cap on the commission side, and the hiring team was direct that they would rather pay on performance than on potential.
Payout Timing
Paid at the Deposit, Not at Completion
Commission follows the customer''s progress payments rather than project completion. Payout starts at the deposit and typically finishes within about ten weeks of the sale, so you earn inside the quarter you win the deal. There is no draw, and you will not need one.
Territory
Open Ground, Not a Crowded Patch
The territory has gone uncovered for the better part of a year. There is an existing account base to reintroduce yourself to and a large share of the region that no one is currently calling on.
The Handoff
You Sell, Other People Deliver
At most companies in this industry the salesperson files the project, manages it, oversees installation, and chases estimates for outside services. Here there is a clean handoff to project management and to installation once you close, and you go back to selling.
Support
Engineering Behind Every Quote
An in-house engineering and drafting team scopes and quotes systems with you. You are not expected to be an engineer, only to understand how things are made well enough to be credible on a plant floor.
Upside
Room to Grow Into Systems
This is not a single widget sale. You sell several categories of capital equipment and assemble them into systems, and the seat grows from discrete equipment into higher value engineered systems as your product knowledge deepens.
What You Will Do
Who We Are Looking For
This role suits a hunter who can manage existing accounts, not an account manager who hunts occasionally. The right person sells industrial capital equipment into manufacturing plants today and is used to a sale that starts with a walkthrough and a problem rather than a price list.
Required
Strongly Preferred
Backgrounds That Transfer Well
No degree is required and no licenses or certifications are needed. If you have sold complex capital equipment into plant environments and can point to new business you opened yourself, the specific product line is trainable. The applications, the equipment, and how to size a system are taught directly by two people who have each been doing this for twenty five years.
Compensation and Benefits
Base Salary
$100,000
Plus uncapped commission
Year 1 OTE
$150,000 to $200,000
Realistic for a rep who performs
Commission
$50,000 to $100,000
Year one, no cap
Location and Schedule
This is a field based role, not an inside sales position and not a desk job. You live inside the territory in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, or New York, and you are in the office near Philadelphia for the first couple of weeks while you get through product and business training. After that you work from the field, and proximity to the office stops mattering once you are operating independently. Relocation is not offered, so candidates need to already live in the territory.
Expect an experienced seller to start making customer visits within two to four weeks, beginning with existing accounts so you are introduced properly. In-depth equipment knowledge builds across the first thirty to ninety days. Travel is primarily day travel across the territory, with occasional overnights and one or two industry trade shows a year.
Early Week
Appointments and Follow-Up
Setting appointments, working the phone to open new plants, and following up on quotes in motion. Most reps cluster this activity at the front of the week.
Midweek
Territory Travel
The heavier driving days. Plant walkthroughs across the territory, roughly two visits on a travel day, five to ten across a normal week.
Ongoing
Scoping and Quoting
Working with in-house engineering and drafting to size systems and build quotes between visits, and keeping the pipeline current in Salesforce.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Precision Sales Recruiting?
Precision Sales Recruiting is a veteran-owned manufacturing and industrial B2B sales recruiting firm based in Fort Worth, Texas. Precision Sales Recruiting places sales professionals exclusively for manufacturing, capital equipment, industrial distribution, and manufacturing technology companies across the United States.
What is The PRECISION Method?
The PRECISION Method is Precision Sales Recruiting''s proprietary candidate evaluation framework for manufacturing and industrial B2B sales professionals. It evaluates candidates across nine scored dimensions: Procedural, Resilience, Execution, Coachability, Image and Professionalism, Sales Identity, Initiative, Ownership, and Numbers. Every candidate is assessed through structured role play, a behavioral interview, and psychometric assessments before being submitted to a client.
Where do I need to live for this role?
Inside the territory, which covers eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York including lower New York and New York City. Candidates within roughly a hundred miles of the office near Philadelphia are the strongest fit, because you are in the office for the first couple of weeks during training. After that the role is field based and proximity to the office stops mattering. Relocation is not offered for this search.
Is this a hunting role or an account management role?
It is a hunting role that includes existing accounts. You inherit a base of accounts in the territory and are expected to keep those relationships healthy, but the seat is measured by the new equipment sales those relationships and the surrounding open ground produce. Candidates whose recent experience is entirely account management, with no evidence of prospecting or new logo wins, are not a fit for this particular search.
Do I need experience with balers, shredders, or conveyor systems?
No. Direct experience with this equipment is a strong advantage, but it is not required. What is required is outside sales of industrial capital equipment on a long, multi-stakeholder cycle, plus the mechanical aptitude to read a manufacturing process. The product line, the applications, and how to size a system are trained directly by two people with twenty five years each in this equipment.
How does the commission work?
Commission is uncapped and is paid on the customer''s progress payment schedule rather than at project completion. Payout begins at the customer deposit and typically finishes within about ten weeks of the sale, so earnings land inside the quarter you win the deal instead of at the end of a project cycle that can run a year or more. For a rep who performs, commission adds $50,000 to $100,000 in year one on top of the $100,000 base. There is no draw.
How much travel is involved?
Expect five to ten plant visits in a normal week, roughly two on a travel day, across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. Most of it is day travel with occasional overnights depending on how you plan your coverage. Add one or two industry trade shows a year. A mileage allowance is provided, and a company vehicle is available for the right person.
What does the application process look like?
Submit your resume through the form on this page. A Precision Sales Recruiting recruiter reaches out to schedule a fifteen minute discovery call to cover the role, the territory, and your background. From there, qualified candidates move through a structured interview process with Precision Sales Recruiting before being introduced to the hiring team.
