    Overnight Emergency and ICU Veterinary Technicians (Experienced)
    Hiring bonus: $3500
    Location: Durham, NC
    Schedule: Full time overnights (10pm-8am)
    *Shift differential available!!!!
    **Veterinary Assistant positions also available
     
    The Triangle's premier Emergency and Specialty Hospital is looking for passionate, highly motivated, highly skilled RVTs to join our ER and ICU teams!
     
    About Us
    Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) provides 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, neurology, radiology and rehabilitation. Our new facilities offer the latest diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities including digital radiography, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and in-house laboratory services.

    About You
    As an ER/ICU RVT with TVRH you would function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility, so there are a few things that are a must:
    • The more you know – No body knows it all, but your patient care knowledge and skills should be solid.  You should be willing, enthusiastic even, to learn and try new things and to share what you do know with others
    • Earn the team’s trust – You take your responsibilities seriously.  Be where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there and do what you’re supposed to do when you’re supposed to do it.  Know when to ask for help and give help to others when it’s needed
    • Be Kind – Treat your team, your patients and your clients with the respect, compassion and consideration you would like to be shown if you were in their shoes…or paws
    • No I in TEAM – Cheesy but true, the ability to work both independently and with a team, while maintaining a positive attitude, is critical.  Being willing to help where you are needed keeps the team going and the care flowing

    About the Job
    ER and ICU RVTs provide critical care to patients in emergency situations and those with acute or chronic illnesses that require hospitalization.  They work closely with Emergency Clinicians, ER/ICU Veterinary Assistants and Patient Care Assistants.  ER and ICU RVTs can expect to:
    • Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
    • Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
    • Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
    • Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
    • Observe patients and recognize changes in status
    • Place peripheral and central catheters
    • Restrain patients for exams and treatments
    • Participate in nurse rounds
    • Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
    • Maintain urinary catheters
    • Bandage removal and application
    • Perform suture and drain removal
    • Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
    • Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
    • Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
    • Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
    • Basic wound cleaning and care
    • Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
    • Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
    • Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
    • Obtain samples for and perform in house laboratory testing
    • Assist in CPR
     
    Required Education and Experience
    • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
    • RVT licensed or eligible in NC
    • 2+ years as veterinary assistant or technician in a fast-paced veterinary hospital; specialty or emergency experience preferred
