Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

Packaging Process Development & Maintenance

  • Develop and maintain part packaging process routings.

  • Design new part packaging.

  • Revise existing packaging as required.

  • Maintain revision records.

  • Develop and maintain packaging cost information.

  • Provide engineering packaging data for Allison Divisions and the Department of Defense.

  • Packaging Material Specifications & Inventory Support

  • Develop and maintain packaging material specifications.

  • Create packaging material purchase order releases.

  • Assist in developing packaging inventory and replenishment programs.

Packaging Engineering Laboratory Coordination

  • Develop and perform testing on packages according to ISTA requirements. Conduct packaging material testing as required.

  • Perform testing for divisional needs as required.

  • Provide Warehouse & Distribution Project Support

  • Assist with technical, system, in-house logistics, and packaging quality issues. Assist with supplier packaging development.

  • Actively pursue cost savings & continuous improvements

  • Conduct studies to reduce divisional labor and material expenses.

  • Evaluate employee suggestions regarding new packaging method improvements. Evaluate packaging concerns from employees, suppliers, and customers.

  • Maintain revision records and packaging cost information.

System & Technical Support

  • Assist with system issues related to packaging processes, material specifications, and logistics systems.

Data, Documentation & Visual Support

  • Assist with data collection and recording.

  • Create and update Kit Books and visual aids.

Key Performance Measures:

  • Kit book accuracy and timeliness

  • Packaging Routing Accuracy

  • Cost savings due to packaging optimization

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably packaging, mechanical or industrial) or supply chain is required.

  • Familiarity with packaging engineering standards and ISTA testing.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Preferred:

  • Proficiency with SAP

  • Supplier development or packaging quality experience.

  • Exposure to cost analysis or continuous improvement.

Experience:

Required:

  • Experience designing, testing, or maintaining packaging solutions.
  • Experience with packaging materials or specifications.
  • Experience supporting logistics or warehouse operations.
  • Experience preparing documentation and visual work aids.

Scope Factors:

  • Provides packaging engineering expertise across production, warehousing, distribution, and supplier networks.
  • Responsible for designing, validating, and maintaining packaging standards with direct impact on product protection, cost, and logistics efficiency.
  • Collaborates with suppliers, engineering teams, divisional groups, and distribution operations.
  • Decisions influence cost savings, packaging compliance, testing protocols, and material specifications across the organization.
  • Supports divisional initiatives and represents Packaging Engineering in crossfunctional product and improvement teams.
