Openwork is seeking an experienced Packaging Specialist for a growing metals manufacturing facility in Houston. This hands-on role is a great fit for someone with packaging, forklift, warehouse, or material-handling experience who is looking for steady work and long-term potential.
Position at a Glance:
Location: Houston, TX 77028
Pay:$20.00 per hour | Weekly Pay
Shift:2nd Shift | 2:30 PM – 1:30 AM
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Hours: Approximately 40–60 hours per week
Overtime: Required as needed based on production demands
Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire
Your Day-to-Day:
- Package rolled and flat products according to customer requirements.
- Read and follow packing lists, shop copies, and packaging instructions.
- Inspect materials for correct dimensions, quality, and defects.
- Prepare pallets, crates, shrink wrap, banding, labels, and export packaging.
- Operate a forklift to move, stage, and prepare materials for shipment.
- Separate, weigh, label, and move scrap materials.
- Maintain accurate packaging and material records.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all quality, environmental, and workplace safety procedures.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- 2+ years of manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, or material-handling experience required.
- Forklift operating experience required; skills will be evaluated during the interview process.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
- Ability to pass a basic math test.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Reliable and consistent attendance.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
- Ability to frequently lift 50–75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain physically active throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled environment and hot temperatures.
- Flexibility to work required overtime.
- Overhead crane experience is a plus.
Important Work Environment & Safety Requirements: This is a safety-sensitive metals manufacturing position in a non-climate-controlled environment.
Candidates should be comfortable with the following requirements before applying:
- Working around lead-based materials.
- Wearing a respirator throughout the entire shift.
- Ability to maintain a proper respirator seal in accordance with safety requirements.
- Mandatory showering at the end of each shift.
- Participation in required periodic blood testing.
- Working safely in hot temperatures.
- Working around industrial equipment and heavy materials.
- Following all required PPE, hygiene, environmental, and safety procedures.
