Paralegal/Legal Assistant I*This position requires an active Public Trust clearance or the ability to obtain one*Serve as Paralegal/Legal Assistant I with responsibility for typing, receiving and providing information of a sensitive and legal technical nature to visitors and telephone callers, maintaining files, and providing legal and administrative support to assigned Assistant U.S. Attorney(s).Compensation & BenefitsEstimated Starting Salary Range for Paralegal/Legal Assistant I: $17.69/hr - $23.34/hrPay commensurate with experience.Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.ResponsibilitiesPrepares a variety of legal documents such as notices, motions, orders, stipulations, writs, subpoenas, judgments on default, declarations, complaints, and processes of service.Serves as the principal clerical and administrative support person for assigned Assistant U.S. Attorney(s) by carrying out and coordinating all legal clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities.Maintains a calendar of all assigned active cases, including filings, hearings, trial dates, scheduling conferences, and interviews.Supervises contractor personnel and provides assistance in areas such as payroll, vacation, benefits, and disciplinary actions.Coordinates legal and administrative activities to support efficient case management.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.QualificationsRequires a minimum of two (2) years of legal secretarial experience; higher education may be substituted for a portion of the experience.Active Public Trust clearance or the ability to obtain one.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Word.Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive legal information.Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to: Legal Secretary, Law Clerk, Legal Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Compliance Specialist, Office Clerk.Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.Cherokee Federal is a military friendly employer.
