Description:

Job Summary: Provides high quality pre-hospital and inter-facility advanced life support including assessment triage, and treatment utilizing established Clinical Operating Guidelines approved by Emory Healthcare EMS (EHCEMS) Medical Director, within scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of the illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical care patient to an appropriate facility. Is qualified to provide care for patients across the lifespan in assigned clinical area. Assures that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. Supports EHCEMS operations whenever and however is needed. Primary duties and responsibilities: 1. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Emory Healthcare's culture: One Emory, People Centered, Lead Change, Own It. 2. Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from initial patient contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation and completes prior to end of shift. Functions within the scope of practice as defined by state and national regulations. 3. Attends a minimum of eight (8) critical care educational programs per year pertinent to practice 4. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to ensure repair of equipment as directed 5. Maintains adequate supplies on board ambulances 6. Keeps ambulance clean inside and out ensuring safe and rapid response to all requests 7. Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the community 8. Participate in one or more of the following roles on an ongoing basis: - Training - Clinical Quality Assurance - Logistics/Supplies - Compliance - Capital Equipment - Research/Analytics - Internal Communications, and Critical Care Team Outreach. - All Critical Care Paramedics may be assigned as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for new employee orientation or those in need of additional training and/or mentorship. 9. Performs point of care testing 10. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications: Experience - Minimum of 3 years' experience as a paramedic Licensure - Valid Georgia Paramedic License, Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record Certifications - Critical Care Paramedic (CC-P) or Flight Paramedic (FP-C) or CCP-C (Critical Care Paramedic Certification) or CCEMTP (Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program) within 3 months of hire. - BCLS: Basic Cardiac Life Support - ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support - PALS: Pediatric Advanced Life Support Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required): - Knowledge of office equipment - Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, word processing, spreadsheets, database usage, data entry) - Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies - Ability to maintain competency in knowledge and skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences Preferred Qualifications: Experience: Critical Care paramedic experience Certifications: - National Registry Paramedic - NRP: (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - PHTLS: (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) - ITLS: (International Trauma Life Support)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
