Job Description
Under direct supervision, recruits, trains, and supports parents in teaching their preschool aged children cognitive and literacy strategies, home-based and school-based, as part of the HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) program and curriculum.
Parent Tutor - HIPPY Program - Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Meets with assigned families each week for instruction of the HIPPY curriculum through role playing, at families'' homes and at school when needed.
- Participates in staff development as required by HIPPY USA, TEXAS HIPPY, AMERICORP, DFPS and HISD for personal and professional growth.
- Attends mandatory weekly in-service training of the HIPPY curriculum and other staff development activities.
- Creates outreach materials and rosters; completes light clerical duties.
- Assists in the supervision of children after monthly parent meetings as assigned by the coordinators. Participates in all regular HIPPY sponsored activities (i.e. Field trips, End of Year celebrations, TEXAS HIPPY Kick Off).
- Meets with coordinators on a weekly basis for training, reports family progress and parent participation in the schools.
- Implements recorded video summaries for 4 HIPPY ages (2-3-4-5) in English and Spanish.
- Emails family curriculum, links to YouTube, links to books and samples of activities.
- Confirms time and conducts virtual weekly check-ins with families, coordinator and manager.
- Prepares weekly home visit log spreadsheet.
- Conducts virtual assessments and connects families to needed referrals.
- Recruits families to empower parents as child''s first teacher.
- Parent Tutors will preferably enroll as AMERICORP members upon employment and fulfill service hours following federal guidelines until ending AMERICORP member service at the HIPPY Site at the end of the four-year term. Other duties as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE
0 years experience HIPPY program, family/community organizer, and/or parent engagement experience preferred

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Level 1 -No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
- Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.

- Basic communication - very little communication required such as receiving basic instructions. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and co-workers in own department.
