Salary: $22.54 per hour

Candidates must be available to work ALL of the following work shifts:

Evenings, Weekends, and Holidays

Evening Weekdays Shifts: 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Weekend Shifts: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm and/or 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm

The Position:

Parks and Facilities Attendants provide increased staffing and supervision of 23 City parks and buildings during the evenings and weekends. The Parks and Facilities Attendant team delivers excellent customer service and provides assistance to residents, athletic groups, and visitors. Additionally, staff assist with basic custodial or maintenance needs and monitor overall park activity.

Ideal candidates possess a combination of:

  • Basic custodial and maintenance skills

  • Seeks a part-time job (14-19 hours per week)

Examples of Duties

  • Maintenance and custodial duties including cleaning and unclogging public toilets, restocking public restrooms; graffiti removal; cleaning trash cans, emptying trash cans, litter removal and pick up; monitoring groups using fields, picnic pavilions, and City facilities, including the Sports Center at Grijalva Gym.

  • Monitors facility use; opens, closes, and secures buildings for activities, programs, and rental events; and prepares the facility and amenities for patron use.

  • Participates in ensuring compliance with relevant permitting and licensing laws and guidelines; interprets and applies policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations; assists in education about the enforcement of and ensures adherence to rules and regulations.

  • Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by inspecting, patrolling, monitoring, and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; reports unsafe conditions or illegal activities.

  • Interacts with the general public, including children and parents; addresses issues, concerns, and questions that patrons may have regarding the assigned programs and rentals.

  • Maintains a variety of logs, records, and files, and prepares reports related to assigned activities.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to the completion of education which provides the ability to read and write at a level required for the job. High school diploma, or equivalent, is highly desirable.

At least one (1) year of customer service and at least one (1) year of custodial and/or maintenance experience is highly desirable. Comparable work experience with a public agency is highly desirable.

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver License, auto insurance, and a good driving record are required.

Supplemental Information

Physical Demands:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office and/or recreation equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Must possess the physical stamina to lift and move tables and chairs, arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Environmental Elements:

Employees may work outdoors and may work in buildings and recreational facilities and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representative in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Disaster Service Worker:

All employees of the City of Orange are designated by both State law and City ordinance to be "Disaster Service Workers." In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours, and performing work significantly different from the employees normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.

BENEFITS FOR PART-TME AND LIMITED DURATION RESOLUTION (NON-BENEFITED 19-HOUR AND SEASONAL)

This position is either Part-time or Limited Duration (19-hours per week), and is considered "Non-Benefited" and employees are employed "At-Will." This position is provided the following benefit:

Defined Contribution Retirement Plan. Part-Time/Limited Duration employees are enrolled in a defined contribution retirement plan in lieu of Social Security contributions. The City shall contribute 3.75% of the employees eligible earnings towards the retirement plan. Part-time employees also contribute 3.75% of their eligible earnings toward the retirement plan, for a total contribution of 7.5% of salary toward retirement.
