    Position Summary

    Nicolet College is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty member to provide related instruction for the Broadband Service Technician Apprenticeship program.

    Adjunct Faculty positions are part-time roles with flexible teaching assignments each term. Instructors may be assigned to teach at multiple sites throughout the Nicolet College District, including campuses, centers, and business locations.

    Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Adjunct Faculty members play an important role in providing high-quality education, supporting student success, and preparing learners for successful careers. The Broadband Service Technician Apprenticeship Instructor will connect classroom, laboratory, and field-based learning with current industry practices and workforce expectations.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    (This list is not all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.)

    This position will support instruction through a variety of formats, including:

    • Face-to-face classroom, laboratory and field-based instruction.
    • Hybrid and online instruction

    We are particularly interested in professionals with expertise in:

    • Cable and fiber optic installation and splicing
    • Installation of commercial routers and modems
    • Testing broadband, TV, fiber optics, and voice services
    • Cleaning fiber optic connectors
    • Installation of IoT (Internet of Things) devices
    • Supporting IoT (Internet of Things) devices
    • Locating underground facilities
    • Diagnosing service problem utilizing test equipment
    • Repairing cable/fiber optic (replace or splice)
    • Connecting power to equipment
    • Performing load tests and maintenance on batteries
    • Identifying customer needs
    • Interacting professionally with customers
    • Educating customers on product use
    • Climbing utility poles
    • Following general Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) industry standards
    • Following National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
    • Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction that supports student success, workforce development, and Nicolet College's mission and values.
    • Teach theory, practical skills, and professional standards in broadband technologies.
    • Demonstrate industry best practices and current techniques.
    • Provide individual and group coaching to help students master technical competencies.
    • Foster professionalism, customer service excellence, and workplace readiness.
    • Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
    • Provide timely feedback and maintain regular communication with students.
    • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records.
    • Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems effectively.
    • Participate in curriculum improvement and program development initiatives as needed.
    • Maintain current industry knowledge, licensure, and professional certifications.
    • Support workforce and community education initiatives when opportunities arise.

    • Current broadband service standards, regulations, certification requirements, and industry best practices.
    • Learning management systems and instructional technologies used in higher education.
    • Safety practices applicable to classroom, laboratory and field instruction.
    • Deliver effective classroom, laboratory and hands-on instruction.
    • Evaluate student learning through written and authentic assessments.
    • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external partners.
    • Utilize Microsoft Office applications.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
    • Adapt instructional methods to meet diverse learning needs.
    • Build collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and community partners.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning.
    • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and community partners.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment such as telephone, personal computer, printers/copiers, reports and files.
    • The employee will be constantly required to sit, talk, hear, and type/write.
    • The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers), and reach with hands and arms.
    • The employee must occasionally bend or squat and lift and/or push up to 25 pounds of general office items.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.
    • This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • The completion of a registered apprenticeship with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards, OR with a federally registered apprenticeship program, OR a signed letter from a representative of an appropriate and authorized apprenticeship advisory committee.

    and

    • Two (2) years or 4,000 hours of related work experience.
    • One (1) year (2,000 hours) of related work experience must be within the past five (5) years.
    • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent teaching experience in a related area at an accredited college within the past five (5) years may be substituted for the one (1) year of related work experience within the past five (5) years.

    OR

    • Technical diploma with the ability to obtain a Journeyworker certification or Associates degree within three (3) years of employment (unless waived) in a related field.

    and

    • Six (6) years or 12,000 hours of related work experience.
    • One (1) year (2,000 hours) of related work experience must be within the past five (5) years.
    • Two (2) years of full-time equivalent teaching experience in a related area at an accredited college within the past five (5) years may be substituted for the one (1) year of related work experience within the past five (5) years.
