Part-Time Barista Trainer

Our client, a specialty coffee company, is hiring a Part-Time Barista Trainer for its downtown Austin locations. This role onboards new baristas and keeps existing staff consistent on drink preparation, equipment use, and customer service standards. Hours are approximately 20 per week, including some early mornings and weekends.

The Barista Trainer works on the floor alongside the café team. You will lead hands-on training sessions, observe staff during service, and give direct feedback. You will also help store managers track training progress and identify areas where staff need additional practice.

This position suits an experienced barista who enjoys teaching others. The role reports to the Regional Operations Manager and may involve travel between locations within Austin.

Responsibilities

• Train new hires on espresso extraction, milk steaming, and drink recipes
• Lead onboarding sessions covering food safety and sanitation procedures
• Observe baristas during service and provide timely, constructive feedback
• Teach proper use and daily maintenance of espresso machines and grinders
• Maintain training records and report progress to store managers
• Conduct periodic quality checks on drink consistency and presentation
• Support café operations during peak hours as needed
• Help update training materials as menu items and procedures change

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience as a barista in a specialty coffee setting
• Prior experience training or mentoring team members preferred
• Strong knowledge of espresso preparation and milk texturing
• Clear and patient communication skills
• Current Texas Food Handler card or willingness to obtain one
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds
• Availability for early mornings and weekends
• Reliable transportation to travel between Austin locations
