Summary:

To assist and cooperate in a supportive role to the teacher with carrying out developmentally appropriate activities in the learning environment. Assist in actively supporting the school readiness goals, daily preparation, and the supervision of the children in the classroom and on the playground. Promote health, safety, nutrition, and the children's education in the learning environment.

Major Responsibilities:

• Responsible for maintaining compliance by adhering to Agency Policy and Procedures, Administration for Children and Families Performance Standards, and North Carolina Day Care rules and regulations.
• Assisting daily within the Head Start/Early Head Start center as directed by the Center Manager.
• Responsible for supervising children by providing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
• Responsible for participating in keeping the center in compliance in the absence of a teacher assistant, teacher, and/or substitute.
• Planning and preparing materials and activities for individuals and/or larger groups of children enrolled in the learning environment and/or the extended childcare program.
• Completing lesson plans for the extended childcare children weekly and submit them to Center Directors
• Providing 15-minute breaks for the teachers assigned at the center.
• Flexible and able to adjust work schedule as needed
• Assisting each classroom on an assigned basis to provide breaks for all teachers and teacher assistants.
• Maintaining daily attendance records for the extended childcare program
• Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:
• High School diploma or equivalency (GED)
• Experience working with children in a group setting

Preferred:
* EDU 119 Certificate
*Early Childhood Certificate, Child Development Associate (CDA) in preschool and/or infant toddler development,
                                                                                 OR
*A combination of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and a minimum 
of one-year experience teaching infants/toddlers and/or preschool.
*Bi-lingual (Spanish)

Expected Hours of Work:

Monday-Friday:
8:30 am – 1:00 pm or 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm
            

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

• Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods, and operating assigned equipment.
• Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, as needed.
• Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
