Description

To instruct classes in assigned division.

Examples of Duties

Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Instruct contracted hours in various topical areas; prepare instructional materials and aids.
  • Begin and end each class on time; turn in reports and other forms on time.
  • Assist in the evaluation of activities and operations of assigned topics; ensure that goals and objectives of the classes are met.
  • Attend various instructor meetings.

Marginal Functions:

  • Participate in professional development activities and required instructor training.
  • Maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational field.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Working Conditions

Principles and techniques of classroom instruction.

Multiple functions of police operations.

Regional and global public safety and law enforcement trends.

The mission, goals and objectives of CCC&TI.

Safe work practices and procedures.

Operational characteristics of equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Modern classroom procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

Ability to:

Interpret and apply college and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college.

Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Environmental Conditions:

The instructor should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve classroom workspace, working closely with others, and periodically working irregular hours.

The instructor must maintain the teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe Classroom environment.

Physical Conditions:

Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens. Specialized instructors must maintain physical requirements as assigned by North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards.

The instructor is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.

Additionally, the instructor must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.

Scheduling Conditions:

This is a part time contracted position.

Traveling Conditions:

Local travel between the Caldwell campus or any off-campus sites may be needed.

Experience and Training

Experience:

Minimum of five years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer in North Carolina is required, including four years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer, administrator, or specialist in a field directly related to the criminal justice system.

Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Training:

High School Diploma or equivalency is required.

Must also hold (and maintain) a current instructor certification by NC Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division.
