SUNY Niagara is seeking experienced, clinically focused nurses interested in sharing their knowledge and helping develop Nursing students.

Evening clinical instructor opportunities are available in our Practical Nursing (PN) Certificate:

  • Long-Term Care Clinicals
  • Monday or Wednesday Evenings
  • 4:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Typical Work Activities

  • Instruct Practical Nursing students in a clinical healthcare setting.
  • Facilitate the application of classroom theory to real-world patient care experiences.
  • Mentor, coach, and evaluate students as they develop clinical nursing skills and professional competencies.
  • Promote safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Provide direct observation and feedback regarding clinical performance, critical thinking, communication, and patient care.
  • Assess student achievement of clinical learning outcomes and complete required evaluation documentation.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student growth and confidence.
  • Ensure compliance with program, clinical agency, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor student attendance, preparedness, and adherence to clinical policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Ability to work with, and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's of Science degree with a major in Nursing
  • Masters of Science degree in Nursing. If candidate does not currently have a MSN must be either currently enrolled in a MSN program or intend on in enrolling within the academic year.
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • Recent (within 5 years) acute care experience.

In exceptional circumstances, candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) may be appointed to a clinical instructor role on a limited-term basis if they:

  • Currently licensed and practicing as a Registered Nurse in the clinical specialty area assigned;
  • Has demonstrated experience precepting, mentoring, or orienting new nurses or nursing students; and
  • Commits to enrolling in an accredited MSN program within an agreed-upon timeframe.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master's of Science degree with a major in Nursing.
