POSITION: Part-Time Regular Education Paraprofessional - Library Media & Technology

ASSIGNMENT: Spooner Elementary School (Grades 4K-4)

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Part-Time Regular Education Paraprofessional - Library Media & Technology is responsible for providing engaging library media and introductory technology instruction to students in grades 4K-4 under the supervision of the building principal and certified staff. This position promotes literacy, digital citizenship, and foundational technology skills while fostering a positive and welcoming learning environment. The position also provides student supervision, including recess and other assigned duties, to ensure a safe and supportive school environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Co-Plan and deliver engaging library media lessons that promote reading, literacy, research skills, and a love of learning.
  • Co-Plan and provide age-appropriate technology instruction that develops students'' foundational technology and digital citizenship skills.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support classroom instruction through library and technology resources.
  • Organize, maintain, and circulate library materials and instructional resources.
  • Assist students in locating, selecting, and utilizing books and other learning materials.
  • Maintain library equipment, technology devices, and learning spaces to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Support students in developing responsible technology use and digital citizenship.
  • Supervise students in a variety of settings, including recess, hallways, lunchroom, assemblies, and other assigned locations to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Model respectful communication, positive relationships, and appropriate student behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other school staff regarding student needs and instructional support.
  • Respond appropriately to student concerns and emergency situations following district procedures.
  • Operate computers, tablets, library software, and other educational technology tools.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Ability to work a part-time schedule on student contact days.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or post-secondary coursework in education, library sciences, technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
  • Demonstrate initiative, flexibility, and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to effectively manage groups of elementary students in both instructional and supervisory settings.
  • Basic proficiency with educational technology, Google Workspace, and other instructional software.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver''s license preferred.
